From: Ciaran Laval Agreed and already voted, if they want a catch all "account verified" option then fine but having age verification and piof as different options is plain silly. Except if you ask them to go with only one option they might well go with age verification instead. If so, then I'd have to leave SL. No freaking way am I giving data to some unknown. (I know all the arguments about how harmless it is. I don't agree.)

If they actually NEED to use any such option, then they NEED to be on an adult rated sim, Zindra or private. Setting their parcel to "Age Verified" is completely worthless.

From: Dekka Raymaker Aeslyn, if you have a passport wait until your about to renew it and use that, when you renew your passport it comes with completely new number anyway. If you have just got a new 10 year passport, that may be too long to wait, so just register using the old passport number, simple! Thanks Dekka but yes, I know I could - it's more that I prefer not to hand out details they don't have access to for cross-checking. It's an identity protection issue IMO - it's not potential junk mail that concerns me. Plus I don't imagine a company would go to the trouble and expense of maintaining a database of international ID info and not use it for something rather more than just checking ages of a few virtual world residents. Who'd be getting access, I wonder? So I remain sceptical. -- Aes

I don't, for reasons quite other than their notorious willingness to age verify Elvis (presumably more than once). There's no way legally that they can get your age from a UK Driving Licence or passport number. And there's no connection whatsoever between your postcode and your passport, anyway.. the only data about your address the Passport Agency have is where they sent the passport to, after all; they have no idea -- and don't expect you to tell them -- if you've moved since. The Passport Agency website has changed since when I age verified, using my postcode and passport number a couple of months ago, and now doesn't go into so much detail. Certainly, at the time, though, it said, in terms, describing the verification services they offer to commercial organisations, is that they'll tell third parties who are registered with them if a passport number is a valid one, and if there's any problem with it (it's a valid number but it's expired, or it's a valid number but there's something wrong -- like it's been reported stolen -- so please call the police). They said that's all they would confirm. And they said they do this only in response to phone inquiries, and I just do not believe that when I verified, someone in the USA made a phone call -- in what was the middle of the night for them -- and got someone at the Passport Agency to pick up the phone on a Sunday morning here and give them a reply, all in the space of the few seconds it took to process the verification. I think what happens is. at most, they check our post codes against the the age verification databases maintained by a credit reference agency like Experian, who would have been able to check my name and postcode against their records (I'm not on the public edition of the electoral roll), and who will know I'm over 18 because I've got a credit history. All the rest with passport numbers and driving licences is window dressing, to my mind.

I just voted. *rolls her eyes* It was useless for it's purpose anyways, because I'm pretty sure I can register my cat.. and his name is a name only an animal would wear.

From: Argent Stonecutter Instead of a vegetable or a mineral? Okay, let me phrase it like this, it's a name that only an animal renamed by a 2 year old would wear, or an extinct flightless bird. I think a rock's name would have been just as fitting, however, given how thick this cat's head must be. Though to name him after a plant would almost be an insult to the plant!
