It's become so obvious that most of LL doesn't give a crap about the residents, that I'm beginning to wonder if ANY of them still have a bit of dignity and compassion left. However, I'm sure there are plenty of decent Lindens left, and it would be nice to know who is on our side. So, I'm starting this thread for people to post the names of Lindens who they know to actually, SINCERELY care about the success of the platform and its users, instead of just paying lip service while they screw us over for money. I'll start the list with "All but one out of the 100-150 of them I've met since 2006." _____________________

The time I spent talking personaly with Joe Linden on the beta grid wayyy back during the voice beta, I will never forget. Joe shared so much of my love/hate for aspects of Second Life.
He was really friendly and seemed like even still he truely enjoyed using second life. It was about a week that he spent just hanging out using voice with us, back when it felt so new. You could tell he was as thrilled about it as we were. One of my many favorite features in second life is chat bubbles, and it turns out Joe worked on them himself. I got to listen to him explain the design process on things like there intelligent movement, and that was pretty fun |

The only Linden I feel gives a darn for the average SL Resident and has made my experience delightful due to his work is Torley Linden.
CG Linden and another one associated with the Go Game on the Vineland sim didn't lift a finger to help when my partner, one of the most avid and regular Go players they had launched a valid complaint. We have not been back there since (and that was about 8 months ago). So their attitude directly influenced 2 people who would have supported that sim. _____________________

Trying to give a serious response here:
I have met Torley in-world, several times, and they seemed to genuinly care about residents. But Torley has been seen less and less in public venues, and I get the impression the administration is holding Torley on a pretty short leash. Data Linden has been helpful in Beta grid debugging issues. Have never seen data anywhere other than on the Beta Grid, however. The other Lindens that I have met, at various office-hours meetings, seemed far more interested in their own projects, and promoting the Company stand on those projects, ("Voice will be GREAT! Really!" than in Resident opinons or issues._____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

I always appreciated Torley's textures and tutorials. I still do.
Why LL would restrain or (I heard fire?) otherwise dampen an employee's gift for increasing people's enthusiasm for and knowledge of their product, I don't know. If that isn't what happened I apologise to LL. ![]() |

Well I had someone plant a tower outside my shop with a hugely offensive rotating ad...and Minerva came in wings and made it go away. So yeah, she rocks

Lindens I know of who care. <snip>Zero Linden That's another one in his non-Linden form that could have intervened in the Go Game situation and didn't. To give him the benefit of the doubt...he *may* not have known about it...but I have a bad taste in my mouth re: the three Lindens in that situation. ETA: The 3 Lindens I noted participate in Go in their non-linden alts. However, my thinking is, if they don't care about something they are in charge of when not in Linden form, why should I think they'd be any better then? _____________________

I have met Torley in-world, several times, and they seemed to genuinly care about residents. But Torley has been seen less and less in public venues, and I get the impression the administration is holding Torley on a pretty short leash. I dunno. He's moved to the Documentation team, and seems to be taking over the Doc office hours in quick fashion. Torley seems to still be very involved in different ways. nowadays. If anyting, I think Torley is almost too big for SL at this point. ![]() Anyway, back to the OP. I'm biased on this thread. I spent yesterday IRL with a couple Lindens. I have friends there (and no, not in an FIC form. Just friends). That said, the vast majority do care for our world and its people (and many are active parts of our works, and part of its people). Some might have an odd way of showing they care, or might be hamstrung due to the nature of their work. I've never shied away when I've felt someting is wrong, too. I still do not like the way stuff with kid avvies has been handled. I said plenty about my feelings towards the way SL5B was handled. There are decisions out there that I've not liked, and likely decisions coming that will definitely leave a bad taste in my mouth. Sometimes "Linden Lab" has to make decisions that are not liked. Heck, there are decisions the company has had to make that the individual Lindens don't like. Likewise, Lindens are humans behind the keyboard (well, aside from some of the LindenBot accounts, but I digress) and make mistakes, or give in to moments of hubris, jealousy, or anger. But do they care? Ya, by and large I'd say with enough people in this thread, you'd likely end up with a pretty complete list of Linden Lab employees. _____________________

Sorry but this is patently ridiculous. There's a very big difference between "caring" and "empowerment" and "business strategy". I think LL are on track with their business plan as it is to turn the whole thing into a commerce environment not a nice fun toy they need to "care" about people in.
This is not praise for LL, just seems the only viable explanation for how shoddily they treat their customers. Churn still burns, baby! That being said there always were a core of Lindens who could be relied upon to care (Torley for one, Teeple, Data, Spike, Dee, Harmony etc) as well as ones who needed a good slap. The days of seeing Lindens around and about are gone, for good reason, there's ten times the login that there was when I started three years ago (albeit there's still far too many who are bots). _____________________

I guess because I have been in SL so long I view "Lindens" a little differently. I am part of the SL generation before Live Help and Support Tickets. You know the ones who just pulled up the last name linden in search and IM'd one when there was a problem or question.
![]() I guess this gave me the impression that they really did care. Most were perfectly willing to drop what they were doing and try to sort the problem. THings have changed now. SL has become FAR to large for this level of personal service to be even remotely feasible. Most Lindens these days I find are indeed specialists and nothing wrong with it. It does help however to walk up and say hello to them. Many times if they cant sort something they know who can. ![]() Older Lindens that I particularly enjoyed meeting and learning with/from(some still around some maybe not): Char Jeff Kona Coffee Pathfinder Data |
