So okay are we not supposed to have some enjoyment with SL thats what I came here for?

I find plenty on the forums to be quite useful and great topics here and there. But me I am all about balance. I see no reason for this place to be so rigid. Who wants to be a suit all the time especially when its a place that is for our recreation? If you dont like something on TV you can err well turn it off no? So just dont read them and your problem is solved. :)

I agree completely with that. ....I find that too many of the threads are just repeats of silly comments.

I just did a double take on this post.

I missed all the pie and cheesecake talk. And for that, I'm sad.

How can it be missed, it's in almost every thread.

It started out as a funny thing plus a crazy spammer now its out of control with more threads off ppl complaining. The little pebble snowballed into a mountain time for me to run as fast as I can away from the drama llama.

I seldom ever REPEAT my silly comments and I don't think that I have ever started a thread just to discuss a silly topic. Go back thru my posts and the percentage of just plain silliness is probably far less than half, especially in the recent times since this forum has degenerated so much so often.

I guess I'm a 'stick in the mud' too -- I agree completely with that. I don't read the forums near as much as I used to and I find that too many of the threads are just repeats of silly comments. I never really minded rehashing the controversial threads about stuff like relationships in SL and all the variations of that topic, and I never really minded the silliness that would sometimes develop in serious threads after the main topic was handled. But I just seem to have a hard time accepting the quantity of intentionally started silly threads that we are getting.

I agree that there should be a General Discussion forum and really really with LL would create/re-open one.

/me just goes back to her mode of ignoring most of RA these days.

I think I agree with this ;) I don't mind the same questions that come up again and again, because new people will always think they are the first to ask the question and so understandably want the answer :)

I am finding the silly threads nothing but a back slapping exercise and it is getting tedious. I love banter and silliness in forums. I am a member of a couple of unofficial SL forums for that reason.. I use to love this forum for all the advice, tips, knowledge and more that I picked up and maybe could share.. now unless you can bake a pie whilst munching a cheesecake your stuffed!

Now .. with a little more thought this could have been an actual topic worth discussing ..

Rather than the thread just being the same thing it is complaining about.

---------
How about this topic -

"What sorts of things should we be discussing in Resident Answers?"

Or one more like the OP's but less accusatory -

"Is there too much Levity in Resident Answers? Should something be done about it?"

Or one that goes to the core of the problem -

"Why won't the Lindens open a General Discussion Forum?

But...but...we've DONE all those.

And I'm hungry.

I can't vote, I don't like pie or cheesecake but I like the forum posse/clique/cartel/whatever. I always pass on the pie but join in the fun nevertheless.

I know only small.. but do the figures in the little poll above not show you that most people don't care for pie. Are the pie people now turning into the "outsiders"?

Why do the majority of people who use this forum and don't care for "pie" have to put up with sustained attacks of it? :(

And to think we chased Jig away . As usual, the poll is flawed it needs a third response "The I don't really care either way " option. Otherwise, I have to abstain

The way I read the OP was that he doesn't understand where all the pie references originate from. I don't either, and often wondered about it. It didn't seem like the OP was all that annoyed, just curious.

PIE is a reference to the internet slang "I LIKE PIE" sometimes intentionally mispelled ala leetpspeak to "I LIEK PIE". I'm not sure how it came to be but it is basically a sarcastic comment that an argument or proposition in a thread was trivial or that the thread had become trivial by being derailed, i.e., the opinion that the poster likes pie had the same importance and meaningfulness as the thread or original post.

When people make threads about pie I guess it is commentary about how (un)interesting topic threads are in the forum itself that day or they are just being attention whores. :p

How can you start a poll without "pie" being one of the options?

This here about sums it up as well. I've been liking pie for many years now. Its a great way to kill or derail a thread to something at least mildly interesting.

For those interested I prefer a good lemon pie or a nice fresh apple pie.

Thank you! I always wondered about the pie references, but was always happy to see them.

I prefer my pie with whipped cream, please. (or ice cream. or some nice cheese. or an Irish Mist. mostly, I just like pie.)

I miss the long, informative threads about the state of the economy or speculation on the price of land. I miss when people didn't intentionally try and start a friday thread, when friday threads only actually happened on a friday, and when even then it wasn't a sure thing because friday threads were the best when they evolved that way on their own.

I guess all that means I'm probably a 'stick in the mud'...

-Atashi

I miss those too. They were so much fun. Usually they were a thread with a very simple question that was answered in the first few posts or a thread by a troll trying to stir up trouble. They would then break down into silliness and someone would declare it the offical Friday thread. Hilarity would then ensue.

The new "This is the Friday Thread" threads just don't cut it for me. Too forced. I don't even bother reading them anymore.

The ironic thing is that there's no reason to name a thread "The Friday Thread" because it seems like every thread is a Friday thread, but that's just me being grumpy again.

Maybe it's a growing apathy on my part, but I used to read every thread in RA obsessively, now I find more than half of the active threads at any given time are fairly meaningless fluff that I can ignore.
