I'm not sure how many people actually post to this Board on a regular basis, but is it really as few as it seems?

I for one don't know why constantly mentioning Pies and Cheesecake is amusing, but I thought a quick straw poll would indicate if I was in the minority.

If everyone's happy, then I'm obviously a big stick in the mud :)

Now .. with a little more thought this could have been an actual topic worth discussing ..

Rather than the thread just being the same thing it is complaining about.

---------
How about this topic -

"What sorts of things should we be discussing in Resident Answers?"

Or one more like the OP's but less accusatory -

"Is there too much Levity in Resident Answers? Should something be done about it?"

Or one that goes to the core of the problem -

"Why won't the Lindens open a General Discussion Forum?

How can you start a poll without "pie" being one of the options?

Like a lot of things, it can be funny when it's unexpected. And like a lot of things, once it's been done to death the amusement can wear off. Then perhaps after 20 years (4 or 5 months SL time) people can blow the dust off and bring it out to raise a few knowing chuckles from the ones who remember it, and some bemused comments by those who don't, and the cycle can start anew. "All your pies are belong to us" anyone?

Maybe it's a growing apathy on my part, but I used to read every thread in RA obsessively, now I find more than half of the active threads at any given time are fairly meaningless fluff that I can ignore.

I miss the long, informative threads about the state of the economy or speculation on the price of land. I miss when people didn't intentionally try and start a friday thread, when friday threads only actually happened on a friday, and when even then it wasn't a sure thing because friday threads were the best when they evolved that way on their own.

I guess all that means I'm probably a 'stick in the mud'...

From: someone
Wikipedia: Soupy Sales-
Soupy Sales developed pie-throwing into an art form — straight to the face, on top of the head, a pie to both ears from behind, moving into a stationary pie and countless other variations. By some estimates, Soupy has been hit by over 25,000 pies.

Come on…pie is hilarious! :p

I guess I'm a 'stick in the mud' too -- I agree completely with that. I don't read the forums near as much as I used to and I find that too many of the threads are just repeats of silly comments. I never really minded rehashing the controversial threads about stuff like relationships in SL and all the variations of that topic, and I never really minded the silliness that would sometimes develop in serious threads after the main topic was handled. But I just seem to have a hard time accepting the quantity of intentionally started silly threads that we are getting.

I agree that there should be a General Discussion forum and really really with LL would create/re-open one.

/me just goes back to her mode of ignoring most of RA these days.

My tuppence (hey I'm a Brit - cents? never use them):

Personally while I like the odd pie, I do find the desserts a trifle overdone atm. ;)

However, a sprinkling of levity is fine by me, as are off-topic diversions now and again. It balances out the serious, informative parts, and if you can't have a smile sometimes, well life would be dull. Some of the jokers on here regularly brighten my day, as well as provide useful info and answers. More power to the elbows of those who do both, I say. :)

A separate GD forum could possibly solve what seems to be an issue with a lot of people, but I think it might have more of a tendency to decend into a free-for-all.

IMO this forum seems, on the whole, to work very well as it is. I tend to just read what interests me and skim or skip over what I can do without.

No, you are just a sane , well adjusted person who probably has things in the proer perspective. I don't read every thread , I don't look at every forum on this board even, most don't interest me. Ironically those threads on the economy and land pricing are the ones I run screaming from :p And there are threads that get started that make me groan or say WTF? So I usually try to ignore them and move along. I just get amazed at how some people compond the very problems they are so piously railing against at times.

As far as moderating goes, I like the least amount possible. Move threads to where they LOGICALLY belong, and lock the occasional thread that truly does need to be nipped in the bud, but that's about it. For the most part, things shake themselves out, most questions get answered, and a little fun is had. I dunno, maybe because the nature of SL attracts primarily tech types, the binary mindset goes awry if everything isn't in the exact place it should........In any case, in the end, it's not that big a deal to get verklempt over . "It's a forum. No one dies."*

But I do agree, Friday threads are not planned, they just happen. And in the best of times, there will be several in contention at once and the fun is watching them develop.
