Should we petition LL for an Ignore Thread feature?

Seriously.

It can be done through a VBulletin mod.

Yes, I realize that we can't even get an upgrade and BBCode turned back on, but a person can dream...can't they??

Ignore how? Started by a particular person? Containing some keyword in the thread title? Started on a Friday??

Absolutely not necessary if we had moderators in these forums. That's what I prefer to see.

There are those that have stated we are adults and we should be able to moderate ourselves. If that were true we wouldn't need police officers, forest rangers, office managers, meter readers, etc. Adults aren't much different than children in many ways. They'll prove they'll get away with what they can time and time again.

Even without those examples listed above, we've pretty much seen it proven this past month that these forums cannot be self moderated.

Not sure why you'd need one, if I don't like a thread I manually ignore it.

As long as the current trend continues, it has made it hard for me to find threads.

There's a feature suggestion forum for suggesting new features such as "ignore thread" and the jira for proposing features and putting them up to vote.

Thus no need for a petition.

People constantly whining about silly threads is far more annoying than the silly threads.

ps - First person to post "People whining about people whining..." wins a thump in the head.

Since they wont turn back on BBC or upgrade to the latest version (maybe they should be forced ..like we are with their software!)... I hardly think they're gonna hack the forum :( But it would be wonderful if they did.

A user on ignore =ignored posts + ignored threads, which = bliss. :D

It was a colossal waste of 45 seconds of my life, which was about all the effort I ever intended to put into it in the first place ;)

Exactly.. plus it's 1000 times easier to not read a whole thread than it is to wear out your mouse's scroll wheel scanning through a thread's inconsiderate derailment looking for honest on-topic replies.

I think the "bring it" line is for something you want to engage in martial arts with, isn't it?

Hmm Why, I just live on the new posts button and user CP (subscribed) to find threads and works fine.
If you don't want to view a thread just don't open it, having said that it doesn't bother me if it is implemented, I just don't see it as necessary.

I think ignoring a thread, either manually or by muting the person is ample.

Even if the person you've muted changes their name (albeit not a dramatic change) as the OP of a poll thread that was recently started did, its not difficult to work out from the style and composition of the post....and just keep on muting/ignoring.

Ive noticed over 100 ppl have viewed that Poll thread but only 5 have responded ....so maybe we're getting there...dont feed it, its not healthy for anyone :)

That doesn't remove the clutter from the index.

There are many threads I'm interested in that I'm not so interested in that I want to subscribe to them. In fact, I rarely subscribe. Only those that are important to me enough that I want to receive emails about them.

I've just had to search through the clutter to find the threads I'm looking for and sometimes they can't be found on the first page. No, it's not impossible, but a mute thread would make it easier.
