From: Scylla Rhiadra (Oh and just to start the new year on a properly pedantic note: Auld Lang Syne isn't actually by Robbie Burns. He just collected it. ) Pedantic only applies if you're being snooty about it. I shoulda looked in Wikipedia (that font of truth ) which does state he "took it down from an old man." (For the record, I neither advocate nor condemn heavy drinking. While the guy behind the keyboard was sipping a dram of single malt so he/I could raise a glass to friends, it was not enough to feel inebriated or have a hangover, and I only do this once or twice a year. I was role playing. I had a good time because of the good company.)

From: Weston Graves I have no memory of this alleged event. And my head hurts. There MUST be some coffee somewhere . . . ( ) If someone can tell me how to upload a pic to my computer, that I saved to my inventory, I will prove it. (you have a pic too, because I gave you one)

(you have a pic too, because I gave you one) I assume you took the pic or at least have it with full perms. Open the picture, then click on the File menu and then select Save Texture.

It shouldn't be necessary to double-check every little thing we post here. I only mentioned the Robbie Burns thing because I've never much liked him, and hate seeing him get credit for stuff he didn't do . . . /me ducks . . .

I couldn't do the "right click, save texture as" thing. So I tried a screen shot. May have gotten the proportions all messed up and it came out a little blurry. Well, Treasure IS awesome and I couldn't see very well for some reason. I had to rely on my other finely honed senses.

The hat you switched to later should have allowed for better viewing.

From: Desmond Shang Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my jo, for auld lang syne, we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp! and surely I’ll be mine! And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my jo, for auld lang syne, we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
We twa hae run about the braes, and pu’d the gowans fine; But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot, sin auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my jo, for auld lang syne, we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl’d i' the burn, frae morning sun till dine; But seas between us braid hae roar’d sin auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my jo, for auld lang syne, we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere! and gie's a hand o’ thine! And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught, for auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my jo, for auld lang syne, we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.
To the World of Second Life, to Residents and Lindens, to Caledon, her Colonies, and all the ships at sea,
To those on mobile devices and those offline, and to the weary and the working who diligently make tonight a delight for the rest,
Happy New Year, and may your coming year be healthy, happy, and prosperous.
It's been an honour to be a part of the world with all of you, and I hope for many, many more.
Desmond Shang, Guvnah Victoria City, Independent State of Caledon And let us never forget it. Happy and prosperoous New Year for everyone.!

I like that your thread title here in RA actually IS a question. As Scylla mentioned, Burns adapted his poem from older versions. One of them shown on the wikipedia page, the 1711 James Watson version, seems a lament to unrequited devotion---the speaker seems to be accusing the beloved of having forgotten the good old days they shared years ago, and of having a 'cold' heart. Since the word 'should' can be used to mean both 'if ___ should happen' and a question about an optional action, I've never been completely clear on whether Burns' poem is saying .........IF old acquaintance should happen to be forgotten... or .........Should we actively choose to let old acquaintance be forgotten? Whichever Burns intended, he gives us (as does Watson's version) a speaker reminding a loved person (friend or lover) of the good old times they've shared. I don't intend to forget the happy times I've spent reading and writing in these Forums. If only they could continue through all of 2010 and beyond!
