I don't explore as much as I used to because finding bots depresses me. Even after all this time. And tell ya what, store owners out there - when I find bots in a store, the store depresses me. I'd much rather be alone in a store than have zombie people around who aren't really there. It creeps me out, and I rarely use that phrase. I have never grown used to it. I hate to say it, but those store "models" that we are apparently supposed to appreciate, I get anxious to get out of there when I see those.
And "anxious to get out of there" is probably not something the store-owner is going for.
The window-washing, etc., type campers aren't as bad, and they were cute for a while, but now I think of them as zombies, too. Shoot, if I wanted to be around a bunch of zombies, I'd play a game full of nothing but NPC's. coco

From: Marianne McCann What, is dis "dun make Mari angry day?" An actually yer post makes fine sense an all. Mari At the risk of experiencing the wrath of Mari, I'd like to declare this "Tread Lightly Around Mari Day" We'll have cake this afternoon in the lunchroom. Please plan to attend. On topic. I've not had a difficult time finding people to hang out with. I agree with others who have posted here - pick something that interests you and go find people who share those interests.

From: Macphisto Angelus Seek some groups out that share your interests. Maybe they will have meetings where you can go to meet new people. Also, think about taking in classes at places like NCI or TUI, there are always new people to meet there. Speaking of NCI hang out there some. I have met some great people there. I'll plug NCI too. I'll usually spend a week in Kuula, then a week wandering. You'll always see me in the Sunday night Blitz Build. Most of the time, I'm stalking noobies and spamming them with random advice. The rest of the time, I'm trying to find the next phys-spam way to take the server down. (^_^)y

Well I just wander around on my parcel and orbit whoever happens to stop by. Wonder if that’s the problem? lol No, I’m not on more than an hour every other night and don’t travel allot. I guess that’s why I see a difference because I regularly stay pretty much where I’m at and talk with a couple neighbors…..about as much as I can do for the time I’m on. Use to be way more people venturing around is the point I was making. I guess I can go find people but it was cool to see everybody about. Now there’s nobody.

(I did not write this. I only reworked the original because the meter was way borked. But maybe that's how he intended it. I feelif you are going to break the meter it needs to emphize a point; much like the finall line of this version)
BROKEN
Broken arrow Broken lance Broken treaty Wasted chance
Broken vision Broken thread Broken silence Too much said
Broken promise Broken vow Broken patience Lonely now
Broken spirit Broken wing Broken hearted Wasted dreams
Broken mirror Broken glass I so miss her

Finding what interests you and meeting people there is good advice. I also find that meeting other people (avatars?) goes in ebbs and flows. Sometimes I meet lots of people and can't keep up with all the conversation and sometimes it seems like I'm the only one in all of SL. Last night (east coast USA time) I was exploring the Caledon sims and only saw one other avie. And that was just before I logged off for the night. Why? I dunno. But I know if I go back another time the experience will probably be very different.
On a somewhat related note, I had a friend that left SL because of the quiet times. They couldn't handle it.

What is it about some of the most beautiful places in SL that keeps people away. (o.o) I've found a ton of regions that were built to be public, were really sights to see, had few to no restrictions on building and scripts, but, nobody was there. (T_T) NEWay, I was in Caledon for a while last night too. But, I was mostly in IMs with a couple people. Between that, my picture taking, and my hunting for nice things to buy, there was a 50-50 chance I would have responded to open chat at all. (^_^)y

I find that I hang out in the places where i have friends. Ok, shameless plug coming....on Etopia we have activities pretty much daily and i find that when i hang around talk to our visitors and residents a group generally forms. Last night i joined two people sitting and chatting at a cafe table...two others came over..then two new people came by saying the had been looking for "green dots." So we ended up with a small group chatting.
As for empty sims...from my experience you have to work to create community in SL. It does not just happen. So, i would never expect a natural area or something with passive activities to have many people at one time. But in places like Etopia or a popular dance spot, the goal is to HAVE people there enjoying themselves. The ones who work at that have it. The ones who don't in my experience get reallllly quiet.
Come on over to Etopia any time...lots of people hang out, do our activities, take classes, etc. and some just hang out in the shops or apts. But there are usually friendly people around. So, dont be lonely...come visit!

Where is everybody?

From: Gully Hawker Is it just me or is there nobody ever around anymore? Heck I’d even enjoy a griefer to stop by! lol Is it a sign of the times? OR is it the tech problems we continually have? One of my friends sees in grey and cant edit or build anymore. Figures he will sell out while he can. I’m considering selling as well if I'm forced to use the newer version viewer(s). Gets to be too frustrating lagging, freezing and crashing all the time. 4 times in 45mns last night! Out getting sunshine and exercise.

(^_^)y Yes, it's quite odd how some places that are meant to be explored can be a ghost town sometimes. Ah well, that makes for good picture taking time when no one else will wander into the shot And you'll never guess who that avie was that I saw just before shutting down for the evening... Hehe
