get an "anti push" device. There are some free ones that work well or if you dont intend on moveing anytime soon sit down then you can't be moved :)

I know the competition that will come along someday is learning from LL's mistakes. But do they have to make so many?

It happens all the time. I don't make a big deal of it. Occasionally it seems that some people do it on purpose but most of the time I think they are oblivious. I just kind of run on the assumption that maybe they have low end pc's and therefore are dealing with a lot of lag and such. That way I don't get too worked up over it.

I use the mini map all the time to avoid this from happening. Recently though I was running late for something and started rushing quickly to my destination when I heard someone say "Asshole!". I ignored it at first and then realized that I had probably run into someone in my haste. I went back and she had rezzed at that point asked why I was so rude and I explained it to her. The two of us ended up with a nice conversation but I really think she and others need to chill about it.

When I land in a busy area I always move a few steps away from the landing point keeping my eye on the minimap to avoid pushing anyone. When people insist on pushing me halfway across the grid the only solution I have found is to push them back until they get the idea. :)

Another solution is to load yourself up with shields, anti push devices and so on but do you really want to bother with all that nonsense?

In the old days, before I was even born I shoudl add, there was a dance called ' the bump'. People seemed to have enjoyed it from the black and white films I've seen.

LOL - I actually remember that dance. I wasn't old enough to go to the bars and do it myself, but my mom taught it to me and we would do it at home. Being a kid, I thought it was great fun.

I agree but I've also been practically knocked across the room by a few, shall we say, not so bony butts.

when someone pushes me, i usually tell that person _once_ to watch it.
if the person doesn't react, reacts in a rude way, or keeps pushing, i shoot him.

YESSSSS!!!!! Right between the eyes too. That will teach them to wait 'til they rezz properly.

Now, if only there were more like you around, there would be no pushing or dragging of people ever.

I have to admit, I've confronted several of the newbie bulldozer people, and every one of them said they did not see me and apologized. This has usually happened to me in super laggy clubs where rezzing is difficult.

LOL It happens.

The other thing to remember besides being in a tp drop zone...is not everyone's computer is rezzing things at the same speed....so often time times they don't see you.... even if you have been in that same place and see everything clearly... it's really not a big deal. I don't think people are trying to be rude.....it's more likely they are new and not used to controls....or they don't see you....or they have lag and the delay is showing them not moving....when in fact they have plowed thru a crowd of people.... It's all very 'normal' in SL and it's not worth the effort to take any of it seriously.
As you get more familiar with things and controlling your own AV....it will become less of an issue. I've been in for almost a year....and it still happens to me from time to time... If I bump, I apologise... if I'm bumped by someone...I don't even worry about it. LOL

The fact their computers may not rezz fast is no excuse for pushing people. Everyone needs to use common sense and wait until they rezz before walking. Just like in rl, if you can't see where you're going, you don't continue to walk.

Common sense is so easy to use.

Yeah, but unlike RL no one gets hurt when pushed in SL. Why does it bother people so much? I don't like it when jerks do it anymore than anywhere else, but that's usually not the case. I get bumped and pushed all day by people who either haven't rezzed completely or don't know what they're doing. I shrug it off and move on.

Guilty...
11-12-2007 02:20
I must admit, I am guilty of pushing people. Not on purpose, mind, just by accident. I hadn't been in world long enough to know proper etiquette and at first I thought SL was just a game.
My computer takes forever to rez things properly so I used to just start walking as soon as I saw the outline of my av. I didn't realise that I couldn't see whole avs of others etc and that I would be pushing them. Actually that might explain a few nasty remarks I recieved via IM.
The thing is that not one of these people told me that it was polite to apologise. they just started having a go.

At least after reading these forums I have a good idea of proper etiquette so I won't do it again lol.

PS. If I ever bumped you, I apologise now :)

Yes beware of those disco hippotamus butt bumps:) Those incidents seem more like slam dancing then any dance I have known bony butt or hippotamus butt bump the pain is all the same. LOL
But the ones I hate most is the unrezzed ghost bump, when I don't see the person or the crossing and fall underground or end up accidentally pushing someone that was invisible.

I bumped into someone last night  and promptly apologised. But yet again, I was pushed along by someone oh her way out of a place and she just carried on. I must have been visible as I was looking at something :D I tried to tell her but she just carried on. I ended up out of the door :D :D
I don't mind, being a newbie I bump often, but try like mad to back up as fast as I can. But as I said in my first post. An apology costs nothing
Anyway, some lovely people have given me some gadgets to try, so thanks for that :)

It's one thing when things haven't rezzed yet, but it's another when they follow you around doing it. Yes, that has happened to me and yes, the person 'wanted my attention,' so rather than being the bright boy that I might like chatting with, he followed me around, bumping into me. If it had been on my land, I'd have gladly set the land to damage to deal with this..

So, yes, I do treat the 'bump and go ons' as totally different from the 'I want your attention, but damned if I'M going to be the one to say hello!' Bump and go on means rezzing issues - and yes, I've had avatars that didn't rez either in world or on the mini-map, so I wouldn't have known if I had bumped someone to be able to apologize, so I assume others suffer the same thing.
