Um, I think everyone is missing something, this isn't just to hide from your friends, you can now appear offline to everyone.

This is important too. I think it will allow some to be more social, and a better friend!

Actually, I think this will make me more open to adding more people to my friends list. Before it was all or nothing. I would like to add people who say, I don't really know but would like to... but it meant being available to them every minute I was on SL... to someone who may not take busy for an answer or turns into a right pest, heh. This allows us a lot more flexibility about who we appear online to and who we are when we want to be.

I agree. I'm afraid to chat to people at random because I worry that I'll just end up overwhelmed if I have too many friends. So I tend to be a little prickly to make myself less appealing. Not that I'm secretly a wonderful person or anything. But it's going to be nice to not have to be so mean all the time.

Then again, I'd swear some people like it when I'm mean to them!. I then have to be all sugary sweet just to repel them. Crazy world! :D

This will be interesting .... I really love the idea of being able to turn off mapping.

But am not sure how the appearing offline in search will work for those of us working places where we are asked to offer TPs. Currently, if someone is "offline" or online but not showing as "online" the "offer teleport" option is not available. This has been a royal pain with the friends presence issues we have had lately.

... and if you send an IM -- will it say the person is offline or will the message just hang there? will it still be sent to our offline mail?

What i would really prefer, is just the ability to toggle mapping on/off (or hell, just disable it totally) and the ability to temporarily turn off getting group IMs without having to put myself in Busy Mode.

I admit that on rare ocasions i make use of the world map to track where someone is, but i don't teleport to them unless they say it's ok (usually they just send me a TP). I am willing to lose the ability i just hope close friends like those i work with in SW, my mate, and my pet will keep me able to see where they are. They know they can trust me with that by now. :P

*calls them up* Where you at??

I just get tired of certain "friends" who IM me when I'm in a space where I can't deal with their issues, and then they map me, and watch my dot.. and if I dare to move without responding to their IMs... all hell and drama breaks loose.

NOt sure why I want to keep friends like that.

I'm just looking forward to that "Group IM among selected friends" feature.. becaue I want to cull my friends list, and as it is, I don't want to open 20 IM tabs to do it, so I've been putting it off.

This seems to be inconsistently implemented. A couple of times I've come online to immediately get a teleport offer... which has expired because it was sent while I was offline.

You should be able to "Offer Teleport" to people who are offline, but it should flush the offer after it times out so it doesn't bother them on login if they're REALLY offline.

You can already call up a "conference IM" by copying all calling cards of the people involved into one folder in your inventory. Right click on the folder will give you an option to IM all people in this conference.
