Yeah the hud will be smaller in v2. As for manually adjusting the rotation of the chair, this is only useful if you use the Lock Rotation button. otherwise, as soon as the chair starts moving it will focus towards the target or off to lala land

In-world project
03-01-2007 13:55
Hi All,

First, I am a noobe, and I am not sure, when I might lose that status, but it has been a month now. :) …If anyone knows that timeline I’d appreciate knowing as the burden is huge!! LOL ….Please excuse the long post.

Anyway, I am working on project plans that will replicate/enhance/represent a RL international event. My intent, at this stage, is to make a presentation to certain parties in RL, with the assistance from qualified SL experts.

My role is SL to RL communications with RL partners and event planners, consulting, business development and project management. The current timelines are to launch by 2009, possibly sooner. It is estimated at this time that it will require two SIMS.

That been said; I am putting together a team of expert SL consultants, graphic designers, avatar creators, animation/script coders, SL designers, builders and personal assistants.

Initially, I want to hold a Pre-planning meeting, here in SL, for the individuals that may be going forward. Of course, those selected will need to pass a screening/interview process. As a preliminary step, some key builders have already been selected; this was done during my feasibility study, which is in near completion. Each respective Subject Matter Expert (SME) selected will assume the role of managing their respective disciplines, and associated individuals working in that area.

For any individual or group that might be able to contribute to this project, or is interested in hearing more I will be holding a small meeting here in SL. To that end, this meeting requires/needs a SL video that would include a brief intro. into the event, which I have on a DVD, accompanied with some type of PowerPoint presentation. SL Voice is another method that may be used during this meeting. The entire SL DVD presentation will probably not exceed 15 minutes or so. This is the area I need assistance with at this moment, hence this post.

As part of my vision, this project includes live video casting of, and during the actual RL event. Readers of this post are encouraged to consider playing a role.

In my brief, but subtle ‘looking around’, talking to SL members, and general just joining in the fun, it is my belief that nearly anything can be done in SL. Therefore, I am confident in not only the vision of this event but I am as confident in the business or income that can come from it.

This being my idea, and because I am the only geek :) of involved RL parties, I was asked to see what is possible her in SL. My time is voluntary at this point and my confidence in its future is very high. Your initial involvement is very much like a bid for potential business, which is generally done on your clock, not mine. The end result can lead to a primary role and being compensated accordingly. You will find I am an upfront, straight forward person, and will be so all the way through this.

To avoid getting flooded with resumes, IM’s, SL example projects and whatnot: I request that only the most qualified apply at this time. If you think you may not qualify in a major role, please do not be discouraged. Once the major players are selected, they may decide to seek out additional assistance, and I will encourage them to utilize the existing SL talent base.

For those that are seriouly interested please send ALL your personal correspondence/resumes, project link examples (LM's) etc., to: admin_at_KYIPA.org

If someone in this forum can assist with the DVD presentation for my meeting please IM me. If I receive an IM that is NOT about the DVD presentation, and it’s a general questioning of what I am up to you will automatically eliminated from being selected in a key role. I am sure you understand my being so adamant about this; I can barely handle the few people on my friends list as it is but to be flooded with other IM’s only confuses me. Perhaps this is an indication I have not graduated from noobe status in SL? Hmmmm :)

Thanks for your time to read this post and I look forward to hearing from you. I will also be placing a similar post in the other related forums, excluding the DVD part. I will try to monitor these forums as time allows, your input, and or feedback may become a factor in all of this.

Feedback for the Filming Path
03-06-2007 22:42
Bought Filming Path yesterday and have only tested it for an hour or so.

It was easy to understand how to use after a little trial and error.

My feedback:

1. The HUD is way too big and there's not enough contrast at lower resolutions (contrast between the background color of the buttons and the text color). Much better methinks would be to just have text labels with the text size the same as the SL interface. But white text with black border, like subtitles.

2. The packaging could be improved. As it is, the HUD gets thrown into the Objects folder and the notecard into Notecards. A single box that can be unpacked would be better.

3. I haven't figured out to make a second run on a camera setup. For example, after setting up everything and then sitting in the chair I get to the end of the run. I stand up and click on the cam and it just goes away. It was be nice if the camera would go back to the start of the run.

Otherwise it works well and is certainly worth $L1500.

One question: if you do upgrade the HUD, will I have to buy it again to have it?

Thanks!

This has been mentioned before and I believe Geuis has this as his top priority for the next release.

Thank-you we shall take this into consideration.

It should be as simple as sitting on the chair again to make another run.

Upgrades shall be free (to the best of my knowledge).

Hope you continue to use Filming Path and look forward to seeing what you make with it.

In regard to restarting the run...

From: nand Nerd
It should be as simple as sitting on the chair again to make another run.

The disappearing chair problem was due to clicking on the wooden counter-weight on the back of the chair. If I click the red/green bars, then the chair resets no problem. Click on the wood counterweight: chair is gone.

Here's a video of my initiation with the tool...it's also a demonstration of how to use it.

Yeah you got it. Its not well described sorry, but the block on the end is a delete button to kill the chair. clicking any other part of the chair returns to start.

Example of Menu UI for Filming Path
03-11-2007 05:20
From: Geuis Dassin

Looking forward to feedback.

Here's a bit more feedback in the way of a suggested UI:

http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/3947/filmingpathui01cd4.jpg

If you can make the UI smaller and get the seat sitting right, I'm good!

Btw, I stress-tested the script in a very active sandbox yesterday. I made
waypoint paths of around 100 + balls and rode through it many many
times adjusting the target each time. The script even proceeded around objects
which were thoughtlessly placed on the path. There were at least a dozen
crazy scripts and sounds going off close by, including bombs, and while that
did cause a bit of lag, the script kept running. =)

Very resilent code.

We at WBA Advertising have been working with Geuis and his team, to perfect a system not unlike the Film Path system for our own activities. I can say for the record that we have been very pleased, not only with the products they have created for us, but in the after sales (although hardly needed). It is refreshing to find someone that can not only deliver finished and professional systems, but does it to budget and timescales.

We look forward to working with you guys more and more in the future...... BTW.. where is my version 2??? lol.. j/k

Built-in video capture function?
03-12-2007 09:45
This has been a great, interesting, and informative thread! In terms, though, of actually capturing SL video to a file, does anyone use the built-in ctrl-shift-a function? If not, why not? If so, why?

I haven't been able to get it to work consistently. It works on some machines, not on others, even those with the same video cards, codecs, etc. Is FRAPS the answer?

TIA!

I don't use the built in system because I found too many problems with it. Other people have asked me to help with problems they had with it. I tell them the only fix I know is to use independent software. I use Fraps and am happy with it. But there are serveral other programs you might choose. I think they are free or for less tha $40.

One of the problems with using the 'native' method is overheads on your client. Using Fraps, HyperCam 3 or other forms of video capture, they dont actually use the clients resources. Assuming your GC system has OpenGL drivers etc, you could try using OpenGLinterceptor for even less system overheads, but its not simple to use.... stick to Fraps and the like...

Filming Path v3 will have a direct feed into the brain, combined with a theatrical AI based on the thought patterns of George Lucas and Peter Jackson. This way, you won't need to edit movies any more, they will be thoughtfully produced on the fly as they are fed into your optic nerve.

Unfortunately, this major upgrade won't be free but can be yours for the low low price of $1.2billion USD.

I dread to think where they are going to implant the codex for such a system Geuis  and surely you missed out the HollyWood Big Brother puppet, Bill Gates, in that link?

I use this
03-13-2007 15:13
I don't need anything fancy (I can add in my titling and such afterwards with another program that I actually got a paid version of as a gift - but there are other ways) so I use this:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio . I know there will be haters out there, but really, it's all *I* personally need. What I do like is that there are no watermarks or time limits, and it can capture to Flash or AVI.

I found this thread after watching a video on YouTube of how it worked.

The video I saw had yellow balls making the path. During the filming, they were visible, so I was wondering, is it possible to hide them?

CamStudio is an open-source screen capture program. It can be used for capturing any screen action and so is just what you want to make video instructions. There is an instructional video on how to download and install CamStudio, presumably also illustrating what you can do with CamStudio.

You can access the instructional video and the download page from:
http://www.camstudio.org/
I found only a Windows version. And if you are not fluent in Geek, pay close attention to the video instructions on what to download. The files you need are marked w32, not src.
I have not tested this program yet but have hade good resutls from other free products from SourceForge. Since I am happy with Fraps, I will not switch, but if I were looking for screen capture now, I would probably try this one first.

Filming Path has now become useless. I've been testing since the dread update
of a week ago.

As mentioned it was working, although the chair would not respond to the
initial click on the target, it would fellow after an abrupt adjustment.

Now after creating the waypoints and processing them, the chair only gets
half way down the line.

I hope the developers are going to remedy the problems which include:

* warppos, lookat issues,

* the seating position

* the size of the UI (too big)

and the problem I've just mentioned:

* cam stops half way down the track...

If for any reason the developers of this project aren't going to continue, please
let us (or me) know.

Otherwise how about a timeline to have a working version of Filming Path for
those of us who paid for it.

Cheers,

The system itself works fine, even without an update(which is coming).
llLookAt still works fine once the camera moves. LL is fixing this.
Warppos still only goes part way to moving the camera to the start point. If anything, this just gives you extra time at the beginning to start filming.

The cam doesn't stop halfway. I just tried it multiple times and it moves along quite normally.

Now now Geuis, the customer is always right.

Infrared is it possible that the run you have defined exceeds the 100m shout range? This is the first possibility that comes to mind. Could you recreate this problem for Geuis or myself?
