I think one aspect of the problems regarding relationships in SL is that the persons behind the avs approach SL in different manners. Some think of it as a game and treat the relationships within the world as part of the game, just part of the fun. Others see it as an extension of their lives; a place to make a RL living, to find a RL love. Its the collision of those two approaches which can cause heartache and pain within SL relationships.

Online Couples

The key in SL relationships - or any other online relationship IMHO - is the same as the key to real life relationships: communication. If you meet someone in-world and you know things are getting more-than-friendly, you need to be honest about your RL relationship status. Sometimes people can agree to be affectionate, caring, and attentive in-world with no hope (or desire) for real life attachment. But there's _no_ chance for this at all if one of the people involved finds out the other has been deceitful.

From: Joy Honey What about those couples who are married in RL and at least one of them has a different partner in game? Or even better, couples who are married in RL, one of them has a different partner in game and it almost ruined or did ruin the RL marriage? Or or or omg even BETTER what about those people who are honest about all their relationship endeavors with everyone involved and everybody's GOOD with it?!? *shock* *awe* ... Hi, I met my husband in 1998 on a discussion e-group. We got together online, met IRL, spent 7 years courting, and then got married IRL. THEN we found SL and just now got married in-game. Some things go full-circle.

Dama and i have been together in SL for two years now, what started as a friendship bloomed over time into something more. Come May, Dama and i will cross another barrier, we will meet for the very first time in RL. That holds something special in itself. I believe that whether you think this is a game or not, your mentality and soul are still in SL, over time you can see this person who they are and come to love them. I love Dama with all of my heart, for me i am glad i came to SL. I met the most wonderful man here that i couldnt find RL.

"Here, Here - How about folks like hubby (Bran Brodie) and I who have know each other for more than 20 years and have been RL married for 10 years and came into SL together as a couple? Oh well - guess we are boring or something Foolish. " Travis Bjornson and I fit into this category. LOL. Ah well. ~Josette~
