I'm so happy to find this forum (and the ones at http://sljapan.nm.land.to)! Not too interested in the whole SL Language Exchange idea as people have mentioned the difficulties with teaching language without the benefit of hearing the spoken word. What I am interested in though is this JP Grid and JP themed sims that I've read about on this thread. I will be getting involved on the sljapan forums and I hope to meet a lot of you in-world later on. I'm very insterested in learning about creating my own Japanese architecture (not including the rust stained bunker-like structures so common around Tokyo). Ironically, I just got the results of my JPLT (Lvl.2) test back on Saturday ("Passed" by the way) and I am just really stoked about getting in there and hanging out and speaking with people that I actually know are in Japan (both "natives" and fellow "gaijin"..) . It's always nice to if you become really good friends with someone, you have a chance of meeting up somewhere down the road in RL. Well that's all.. just a quick intro for now. Hope to get to know all of you!

We have japanese class on one of clothes shop, but just done two times. Im japanese, and did teacher once, but since lack of english skill of mine, asking to another japanese for teacher. Also if you can be Sensei, willing to offer you to our place with Hiragana/Katakana chart and our original text images if you do along with that. Anyway, I will post to this forum when we do the class again. From: Warda Kawabata My Japanese is far from perfect, but after four years here, I think I've picked up enough to teach a basic class. Is anyone organising some kind of class? I need to learn intermediate-advanced Japanese, and would be ok with teachng basic Japanese.

From: Chie Salome Hi guys, All my friends from Japan on Windows needed to install Arial Unicode MS font. Take a look at the first page of THIS thread for the how-to and stuff. If the unicode font can't be found via the link I provided, try googling "arialuni.ttf" (or it could be self-extracting .exe but please be cautious of malware). There would still be one or two valid links. Oh, and here's a reply from Torley Linden on displaying double byte characters on Windows client; /invalid_link.htmlThank you, its finally working Went through about 3 opensource unitype fonts including cyberbit with no success. Eventually got a copy of Offices Arail and that did it.

Hey, some of you already expressed some interest in learning Japanese, and I will provide services, with fees of course. I'm mostly on-line during 8am-1am SL time. IM me or leave me an messages and I get back to you promtly.
I'm a English/Japanese bilingual/biliteral (I noticed that I have to mention this, sometimes. ) and had done some translation portfolios. I also had some video scripts translation and directing of recording of a voiceover for that videos.
I posted a thread about translators but so far, I don't have any responses.

Is this still going on? Is there much of an English/Japanese crossover group in SL? I'm fairly new to SL, but have been studying Japanese casually for a few years. It'd be nice to chat in Japanese

Interresting Thread. In SL, my avatar is Japanese^^. I try to learn by myself japanese. My original language is French. Not easy to write in japanese in SL with IME. Always I need to reduce SL screen to restore IME. If other people have same problem ? Now I prefer use kitsune translator^^!

How Exactly do I enable them for SL ??
03-18-2008 18:28
I have IME and downloaded fonts from MS too, I can read them in IE and in Firefox browsers but it still comes up as "****" in SL . Would i need to reinstall SL and then make changes to see them. I have SL business clients that are Japanese and are also translating some of my notecards into Japanese so i would like to at least see them. Thanks in advance for any and all advice on what EXACTLY i need to do for them to show up in SL...

From: Seagel Neville I found these videos. I don't know if these can help you or not, but I believe it's worth a try. XPVistaI could just KISS YOU for that !!! I make products that need to be configured and I hired a translator to translate notecards for my Japanese customers. It worked, I can see Japanese in notecards, scripts, etc, This thread should be a sticky, for others. Thanks so much again

For several days I have been to many Japanese regions and groups but I still can't find someone to translate the interface of my vendor from English to Japanese (I'll give a free copy in exchange).
Tasukete kudasai !
