Please contact me immediately via IM or private message or post your announcement here! If needed or requested, I'll help polish the announcement and connect you to Residents already working on related events.

I've set up a dedicated account (the same one used for the recent Relay For Life) to accept donations. I've written a script which will make any object "payable" that will donate to this account. Pathfinder Linden has the password to this account; it is all above the table. Its already set up with GOM to receive no fees when converted to US$. If you'd like a copy of the script, just ask!
![]() SLBoutique.com will soon have an item up, similar to the Relay For Life shirt, which you will receive for free when you donate to the site. All proceeds will be donated, and SLBoutique.com will match, Linden for Linden, donations made over the next two week. The item will be up, at the latest, tonight. Can I have a copy of that script to put into the Katrina relief signs? Right now I'm collecting and then submitting to your sign at the memorial, but this would save me a step. Thanks. Kim

The Costello Family is organizing a Benefit Party this weekend to aid those hit by Hurricane Katryn. And we need your help. We are asking you to participate in this event with any donations for either our raffle or donating your proceeds for the sales made for that weekend. We know we are asking alot but then again are giving alot in return. The Benefit will start at 6am game time Saturday September 3rd at Heaven Island and will continue on throught until on until 6am game time Monday September 4th. Any help you give us will be greatly appreciated. Again we need your help.

donation sign wanted for Darkwood vigil
09-02-2005 10:47
I would also be interested in hosting one of the scripted donation signs... like the one that Rick has set up or the one Flip was talking about that pays directly to Pathfinder.
I would love to place within the Cathedral in Darkwood and open it up as an area for people to gather and reflect over this horrible tragedy along the Gulf coast along with maybe even holding a vigil in over this Labor Day weekend. Thanks all, Rhia |

Katrina - One Family Found
09-03-2005 04:17
EVENT: 11:00 a.m. SL time at Wolf Castle. Live DJ. Donation boxes. Please come and help bring this family to higher ground.
-------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps some of you know Vampira Caldera in Second Life. I have known her in game for a year although we are not close friends (yet). I knew she lived in New Orleans so left a message for her and one of her friends with my name and phone number. The friend called me today. She is in Mississippi with her 13 year old daughter and her 9 year old autistic son. They are in a Truck Stop motel with power flickering on and off. The long and the short of it is I have found a place for her and her children to stay here in Indiana relatively close to where I live. The couple has adopted many children with special needs and are already at work getting a line on some medication for Vampira's boy and clothing and other necessities for the family. My husband and I will drive to the Kentucky border tomorrow to pick them up and take them to their temporary home. I will also be available to drive her to various social service places and anywhere else she may need to go. Unfortunately what they do not have is money. She is a single mother on social assistance. They left home with the clothes on their backs. I have NO idea how to go about holding a fund raiser in SL but I did want to share this story of one family with you should you wish to donate Lindens to help them along. I can only try to assure you that any Lindens I receive will be changed into U.S. dollars and given directly to Vampira. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Eos Zander |

Thank You All So Much !

Pepper Curie and I had a very successful Event and raised $300. U.S. in donations from the wonderful citizens of Second Life. I will be giving this money and any more donations that come in to Vampira on Monday when she arrives in Indiana.
I talked with Vampira on the phone earlier today. She is very UP for someone who has been living with 7 people in one motel room without electricity for a week. She wanted me to thank EVERYONE for her. She is totally overwhelmed by the kindness you all have shown. Sincerely, Eos Zander |

By the way, I strongly encourage folks running Katrina events to go to that link and in the Comments section, post how much L$ they're hoping to raise, before the event, and post how much they raised, afterward. Set a challenge goal to make, get folks who come excited to meet it, while impressing outside readers at SL Resident's copious generoisity!

Collecting L$/in-world Katrina donation information for NWN/outside media article!
If you've been raising Linden Dollar or cash donations in-world for Katrina victims and haven't contacted me yet, please post the current total raised in this Forum topic, or contact me directly via IM/Private Message/hamlet@secondlife.com. I want to get as accurate an estimate of total SL donations as possible, both for an upcoming NWN entry, and for a major media outlet which just contacted me, asking after that information. (So it's a great chance to showcase the community spirit of Second Life.) Please post or send me the information in the following form: "Since [date the Benefit start], [Resident(s) or group name who organized Benefit] has raised [L$ amount-- or cash amount, if direct currency donations were pledged] through a [describe in-world benefit/event/donation box/etc.]. Proceeds will go to [name of non-profit/charity]." So, for example, "Since September 2, the Katrina Cordova Relief Guild has raised L$52,000 through a '24 Hour Free Build Telethon Challenge in Cordova'. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross." If you plan on having more benefits later this week, also add a line naming the time/place/event. Please send me the details today by 9pm SLT/PST. Thanks! _____________________

Charity Ball and Auction
09-06-2005 18:10
If you're planning an event to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina in the next few days or for next week, I will post it on New World Notes. Please contact me immediately via IM or private message or post your announcement here! I have wanted to hold a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Katrina for some time now. I have trying to come up with something that would raise some money and would also be enjoyable. This is what I came up with: A Charity Ball and Auction Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6pm Cocktails Ballroom However, we won't be auctioning off clothing, skins or vehicles. We'll be auctioning off residents of Second Life... perhaps those you have always wanted to get to know better. If you are the high bidder, you will win a date with the person you bid on. Winning does not include any sexual activities however (that's our official disclaimer), just a fun evening of getting to know someone a bit better. I intend to put myself on the block. If you would like to do the same, simply send me a notecard in-world, with your biography (make it interesting) and name the notecard "AUCTION ME!" If you plan to attend, we will be selling tickets starting today. Maureen McLean is in charge of ticket sales, so please contact her. ALL $L generated by this event will go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina! _____________________

Still need donation tallies!
The media story I mentioned is here, on the BBC's website. The BBC's article has generated even more mainstream media attention, so I still want tallies from everyone running Katrina benefits. I'm positive the figure of $3300 I gave to the BBC is lowball, because there's so many events and benefits out there I'm not even aware of. So if you know Residents who are running benefits in-world who don't read the Forums much, please forward this link to them, and have them contact me! _____________________

L$585,681 as of today at the Waterhead location. I think that is $2,076 UDS.
