Negative Ratings-Has it gone to far?

Last Night a friend was negative rated and we had no idea who this person was. We checked her profile and she had given 9 neg ratings, we checked..I KID YOU NOT, 30 minutes later and she had given 64 negative ratings. We assume this is a alt account. Hasn't this negative rating system gotten out of hand? To easy to use a temp account and neg rate someone numerous times. Does anyone else think this should be abolished or revamped, any ideas?

as i mentioned in Korg's thread, neg ratings will soon be a thing of the past. i have read enough to know that the Lindens are working hard on a replacement system that will (hopefully) do away with the current system and introduce a much more meaningful system.. one that will more truly reflect a persons influence on the society of SL.

so.. just let it roll off your back. it'll all be groovy soon enough.

(but i will say, i agree that this persons account should be put under review and potentially suspended/revoked.. negative people are not conducive to SL)

Yes, she contacted LL, I believe she spoke with Jeska, and was told that nothing would be done, it was a resident dispute, blah blah blah.

And I don't remember the person's name, but I don't think it was Mia, although it was a female name.

I asked if it was someone named Mia cause Mia L***** neg'd me for being a land baron (I own one 2544m parcel of land). Her profile had no other feedback except 68 negatives given, and her account was created in July.

This persons initials are EB. Easy enough to find out who she is. She is the only person with those initials who has given out that many negs. No others even come close. She is the alt av of some coward or griefer.

Non-Paying accounts (ie free 7 days with L250) should not be able to give ratings, imho

Honestly, I think the ratings system has gone too far. People are abusing it like crazy these days, with group neg ratings even when you've done nothing to these people. Perhaps it should be tracked by IP address and made so that people at the same IP shouldn't be able to neg rate the same person to prevent creating new free alts to neg rate.

I received some negative ratings after that controversial government thread in the forums the other day. I wasn't even in world.

I did manage to track down one of the people, though. It was a brand new user (just created) named Cashuea Gilman which appears to be an alt account of Ryen Jade (from evidence in this post) although it is not conclusive.

I'll be glad to see negative ratings go away. I think the lack of positive ratings should speak for itself.

But I am very curious about what system will replace ratings. I hope it is not based on land ownership or wealth or number of people in your group or other such stuff.

Without wishing to bang continuously on the same drum. You see that we are even incapable of using ratings in a way that is not corrupt. How do you think we are ready for self-government?

I was in milu working on my mall and I got neg rated. My first one since I started playing (see joined date).

I asked her why and she said she didnt like my house in ragla and that I was a land hog.

To add to my above post,
I contacted a linden just to ask if this was an accepted thing to do. Because when I looked at her stats, she had given 61 negs and had not received one neg rating. So I am guessing that like mine, she runs over to a persons property or objects, neg rates them, then flees the area so the person can not find them and neg rate them back.

How is this fair? You can rate me when I am not there, yet unless I am near you or your objects I can not rate you back?

Personally I am not too big into the ratings thing. I give pos ratings all the time but if I get a neg rating oh well. But this got me going because of the way it was done.

Yes, her name was Elizabeth. We found out that it is a alt account of someone who we have had past troubles with. We HOPE Lindens will suspend this IP address since suspending the alt account won't work, obviously.

In Darko's please neg me thread he wondered who this Elizabeth was and why she was competing with him. I guess he didn't realize she was giving them, not getting them.

what a bitch! that is just wrong. well i have made my point about the rating system. i ran into philip last night and he made a direct comment regarding the system after i asked him to neg me.

IP adresses would be fine except me and my girlfriend would get ripped off only because we have a router. Soin actually reality not such a good idea.

Drake, I think they meant ban the IP addy of people who cause consistant trouble, so that you could still have multiple accts to one IP, but if one account causes VERY bad griefing the whole IP could be banned.

Negative ratings should be temporary. They could fade away with time--which would also allow newbies who misbehave torecover after they learn SL manners.

It's interesting how many residents add an explanation to neg ratings in their resident bio-- i.e., "so and so launched a neg rate campaign against me".

The explanation of neg rated is a symptom of a flawed system. I have only been around since 1.3, but I think its fair to surmise the standards of neg ratijng have changed from "responsible and fair" from 1.4 to petty and frivilous in 1.4.

I have one neg rating against me for appearance. I still dont know why, because I recieved it as I was logging out. I suspect it was to do with holding a seburo in the Adam Zaius for dictator campaign last month. If I was shooting people, I'd consider the neg rating fair. For merely holding it, it was frivilous.

Similarly, I have not neg rated a single person in SL, because it will just result in a neg rating back, and possibly a neg rating campaign against me, simply because I dared to neg rate the objectionable behaviour.

I look forward to the ratings system overhaul

Lol, I've had a few neg rates...

Some I deserved,
Some were revenge for daring to neg rate the wrong person...
One of them I have absolutely no idea about.

But yeah, I look forward to the new system.
