I'm down with Hammy. And of course, Eggy, you are, too. Eggs and ham go so good together. Don't they? :)

Hamlet loves himself! Attached is a pic I took at last years Burning Life Festival. Hamlet is at a shrine erected in his honor and he is worshipping himself!

Really? I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Hamlet.

I like the guy myself. The only thing is he's got this strange tendency to shout a lot...

These are very sad times to be an American but where is the rage among the citizenry? Where are the flag wavers who so laud the freedoms symbolized by a flag and written by quill pens in our constitution? Why are we not rallying in the streets against this sort of attrocity? Why because we are gluttonous lazy bastards who say it won't happen to me so who cares. --Ishtar Pasteur

I have always loved Hamlet, though I must admit I am disappointed with the new Av. There was always something about having the ability to be and look like anything you want, and choosing to be a tall blue man in a kilt that made me adore his creativity... or was it lack of fashion sense?.. I don't know.

Hamlet's writing is not only entertaining to read, but quite well-researched, too. I can see some of his interviewing technique in his articles, and his ability to ask the right questions is easily as good as his ability to convey the essence of people he's talked to and places he's visited.

He's also not afraid to let some of his own personality into his work; many journalists are too preoccupied with remaining "objective" for their work to really convey anything meaningful. I think that real journalism requires some level of subjectivity. The personal interaction between journalists and their subjects is what gives life to their work.

Professionalism and ability aside, Hamlet's collected articles in New World Notes also serve as a laundry list of interesting places to go and people to meet in Second Life. I'm only into my second week as a Second Life resident, and I'm finding that many of the most engaging places I've been in-world have been those that I visited after reading one of Hamlet's articles. I'm not likely to get bored any time soon (not with the number of projects I'm taking on, at any rate), but if I do, all I have to do is flip through the New World Notes archives for yet another fascinating place to visit.

Heck yeah. Hamlet's journalism is one reason why I came to Second Life -- it made it sound like such a colorful and vivid place, and indeed it is. He has a wet style that's memorable and easy to absorb, and a heck of a lot more fun than chewing on cardboard as a dietary supplement... which it really isn't.

I don't have a problem with bias if it's stated. I only have a problem with "journalists" who write more mechanically than the hee-larious Johnny 5. If I want a robot journalist, I'll get an AIBO :P

hehe... I'm relatively new, so you'll have to excuse this rather n00bish question (and/or segway to cheesy appreciation thread)..

Who exactly is... Hamlet Linden?

Edit: also, I should add that I understand he's a writer.. but the fact is that some people's posts seem to read like he has had a rather major influence on their stay in SL. Aside from... writing things... what else is Hamlet responsable for? Is he just really active and social with the playerbase? Or is it simply the topics he conveys that draw so much attention? Clarify, please :)

Hamlet (real life name Wagner James Au) writes the New World Notes weblog, which covers just about anything of interest in the Second Life community. The forum in which you're reading this is devoted to discussion related to New World Notes (hence the forum's title).

Hamlet Linden is all things to all men... and *maybe* to one lucky woman. :D

No idea what the history of this post is but I've found Hamlet to be an ideal company rep. He's professional and loves the game, and even more, he loves YOU, the players! That is a RARE thing and he is to be treasured for his enthusiasm and interest.
