I'm going to try out a weekly event listing in NWN-- on Mondays, I'll highlight 3-5 events for the upcoming week. If you'd like an event to be considered in that listing, post the description and event link here, or send them to me via IM or e-mail hamlet@secondlife.com

Main guidelines:

1 - Events for the coming week must be received by Sunday 11:59pm SLT.
2 - Non-commercial events preferred.
3 - Events with artistic, cultural, scientific, social, political, creative, and/or educational value preferred.
4 - Bonus consideration given to game-related or machinima events.
5 - Bonus for events with "I've never seen *that* in SL before" value.

Hi Hamlet -

Not sure if you're familiar with the Shelter, but we're a non-profit rec center for new residents. We're supported by the community with donations, and we have several events at the Shelter you might be interested in checking out:

---Payment Podium

Payment Podium is a Trivia Game-Show in the style of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Contestants are randomly selected from the 'studio audience' to come up and answer questions with increasing difficulty for cash prizes. Audience participation is encouraged, and a good time is had regardless of whether you're chosen as a contestant.

Payment Podium is Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday Nights at the Shelter @ 6pm PST

Event Link for 3/7 - Hosted by Travis Lambert
Event Link for 3/9 - Hosted by Sumar Morgan
Event Link for 3/12 - Hosted by Dolmere Talamasca

---Trivial Obsession

Hosted by Carl Metropolitan from NCI (New Citizens, Inc), Trival Obsession boasts some of the toughest trivia in Second Life. Also ran in a TV Game-Show format, have your thinking cap on for the tough questions Carl comes up with.

Trivial Obsession is Monday/Wendsday Nights at the Shelter @ 6pm PST

Event Link for 3/6
Event Link for 3/8

---Building Shelter

Created by Dolmere Talamasca & Mera Pixel, 10 Contestants have 10 minutes to use the Second Life build tools to create objects based upon a theme. After the 10 minute period, the audience votes on their favorite creation, and the creators win cash & item prizes.

All items created become freebies for the community. Browse the freebies from past games at the Shelter!

Building Shelter is Sunday Nights at the Shelter @ 4:30pm PST

Event Link for 3/12

---Second Fortune

Created & hosted by FireEyes Fauna, Second Fortune is similar to the TV game show Wheel of Fortune. Contestants are selected at random from the studio audience: Guess a letter, solve the puzzle... win a prize!

Second Fortune is Saturday Nights at the Shelter @ 6pm PST.

Event Link for 3/11

Thanks! :)

Hamlet, could please clarify this for me? Do you mean that, e.g., a new Slingo-like game or Tringo-like game event will be given more consideration than those events with one of the following values?:

artistic
cultural
scientific
social
political
creative
educational

Hi, Hamlet!

This week at the Photography Studio in Grignano people can create entries (by using the provided backdrops as a base for their own compositions) for the contest LETTERS.

Entries close on the 11th, I hang the exhibit on the 12th, awards are given out on the 13th. and the exhibit remains up for around two weeks.

Photography Studio SLurl

Awards Ceremony on March 13th

Complete information is copied below.
==============================================
The Photography Studio in Grignano Contest 12: LETTERS

The theme is very loose, as always, and any interpretation is good -- the more creative and interesting the better. ARE THEY LOVE LETTERS? ALPHABET LETTERS? DEAR JOHN? POSTCARDS? ARE YOU ON THE STAMP? IN THE ENVELOPE? Anything you can squeeze into the theme is good. The postman - the letterbox - ancient writings on a stone - baby's ABC blocks - tattooed words - avatars forming letters - surprise me.

SURRENDER DOROTHY
The SKY backdrop could have skywriting, billboards - you think of it.

Backdrops will be up from February 25th through March 11th,
Entries accepted until March 11th at 5:30pm
The show will go up on the Sunday - and we will have an awards ceremony on Monday.
Prizes will be: 400L, 300L, 200L, 100L, 50L

To Enter:
3 Entries
Use backdrops provided upstairs from the Photography Studio to make Second Life screenshots
You can manipulate in a graphics program if you want.

Title it with your name + title <---= so I don't lose it in my inventory
Send it to Osprey Therian with MOD permission so I can resize it, and COPY perms if you feel expansive.

> a new Slingo-like game or Tringo-like game event will be given more consideration than
> those events with one of the following values?

Probably not, unless funds collected for the game are explicitly going to a valid non-profit, for example. I'm more interested in new games and new game experiences. In any case, I'm going for 3-5 events a week, and hope to have at least one of them be game-related.

I forgot to mention three more preference criterion:

6 - Event announcements that come with an event-related screenshot that can be published in NWN, attached to the post or linked to here.
7 - Event announcements that come with a SLURL.
8 - Event announcements that include an official Event link in the post. (Might as well make that point explicitly.)

Again, preference is given to posts which include an official event link. That way, readers have a direct way of joining the fun, and/or creating a reminder of the event of later.

long distance sailboat races
03-12-2006 19:00
Hamlet, I really hope you are getting IMed like crazy in-game with events, since it looks very quiet here in the forums. Have you thought about having a sports page to cover the results of these sorts of sporting events? There is generally a nice backstory for weekly competitions and that might be a better way to promote the idea that there is more to SL than shopping, *ingo, camping chairs, and sex balls.

Anyway, we optimzied Sanchon for sailboats and pirate battles so we will win no awards for outstanding builds. It is empty on purpose... (minimal lag).

What you haven't seen in SL before is long distance sailboat races in the mainland...

Second Life Garden Show : Mar 27 - Apr 2
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Svarga/128/128/25/?x=520&y=350&img=http%3A//www.sluniverse.com/pics/60125.jpg&title=1st%20Annual%20Second%20Life%20Garden%20Show%2C%20Mar%2027%20-%20Apr%202&msg=Come%2C%20relax%2C%20wander%2C%20view%2C%20vote%20for%20your%20favourite

Based on a traditional UK annual event called a "Garden Show". Landscape Artists and gardeners amateur and professional compete to build themed gardens in small areas usually no larger than 1/4 acre.

Svarga Events bring this event into SL by providing an entire sim for people to build themed gardens on small plots. With a judging contest and prize giving at the end. Free entry, open to the public on 27th March.

Please come and support the wonderful creativity of some of SL's best landscape artists by voting for your favourite build.

(
not sure why the island isn't showing up on the web map, it is there really ;)
and the TP works from the SLURL . publicly accessable and visible from the mainland on the main in-world map.
