Since there seems to be nothing we can do about the Impeach Bush signs I went ahead and made a big box with the message on it, that I can wear. This way I can fly into various areas and people there can enjoy the sight of the floating signs in places they don't usually appear.

I flew around Linden village in Waterhead and viewed some of the sights there, the beautiful builds and homesteads. These pictures show how much nicer everything looks with a colorful sign floating in the air above it. If anyone wants a copy of the box, IM me and you can wear one too. Imagine if there were always several people floating above the Linden village wearing these signs, a silent protest. Maybe that would get some action.

So Mikey is Lazarus?
That doesn't look like a screen captured texture to me. :)

Nice work Mikey - i laughed. Not sure I would have spent the lindens on photographs tho.. hard to justify that expenditure.

Hilarious. Not nice, but hilarious. In my future vision of SL, everyone will live on 16sq meters and have one of those boxes on their head. LOL

I swear I'm going to make a shirt that says "Impeach Lazarus," sell it, and just call it a day. Can you imagine the Lindens I'll take in. :)

Well, they are revisiting this issue now (see Linden Answers) and are going to come up with policy to prevent this sort of thing. Maybe Mikey's actions helped a bit.

There are some new signs adorning places.

A wide range of views are expressed in Second Life

Here's another sign illustrating the diverse range of opinions, or perhaps they should be be called marketing strategies, displayed by Second Life residents.

A simple solution to this is for LL to create a rule that would disallow the advertising of real-life goods or causes within SL.

How can I shamefully place a shameless plug? hmmm...

Well.

I could say... if you want to get back at the Impeach Bush Guy... you could.... mmm... deposit money in SLExchange, in exchange for a IBG Tshirt.

Shameless.

I know.

Like the recent Hurricane Katrina and Cancer research fundraisers?

Double edged sword.

So, in the art gallery opening where I am displaying an artist's work, I wouldn't be able to have a sign that helps steer people to buy her work in the real world if they love it?

I would say that the best solution is simply never to give in to extortion.

Also, Unhygienix Gullwing proposed a solution to this as well: have the ability to make invisible all objects of a particular person. You won't ever have to see whatever you don't want to then. This would work kind of like mute, but actually functionally erasing the things you don't like from your second life. Talk about utopia! :-) AND imagine how this would affect the 'policing' currently done by Lindens over stuff like obnoxious builds or things to which people object on moral grounds (nudity, fetus factories, pornography, casinos, etc). In other words, I get to do what I want to (even if that means building a piece of artwork that you find abhorrent) and you get to do what you want to: live without seeing it.

Would anyone like to see this made a feature suggestion?

It's a very interesting idea. But, as others have pointed out, it creates a security problem.
Right now, people complain about the non-existance of a never-existant thing called "privacy" in sl, just because others can cam around walls and / or sit on a prim and just move into an enclosed area. Imagine if you could say: "let me make this wall or whole house invisible" just to see what others have or are doing behind closed doors....

intrestin idea
02-14-2006 10:49
I think thats an intrestin idea to be able to make objects of a persons invisible, but as marker said, there could be some intrestin flaws people have pointed out. If nothin else, be as me, buy a sim and keep the idiots like that out :P its mighty cheap if you split the bill with 3 people :D

~giggles at signs then pretends to go back to doing work~ i like the last one most of all i do believe...

Seems like this problem has pretty much gone away. I explore around quite a bit and I hardly ever see Impeach Bush signs any more. I did see one the other day near Yadni's junkyard but that's the only one I've seen in weeks.

So whatever happened? None of those fancy technological solutions were put in place. Did LL just crack down on the guy? And then, what about all of the bad things that were supposed to happen from that, how nobody would be able to say anything controversial any more? Is everyone scared that they'll be next?

It's strange that this problem just went away without much comment. A few weeks ago it was the only thing everyone talked about. Now it's like nobody ever mentions it.

I still see them around, but it does seem lesser.

Maybe he just got that particular thing out of his system.

(Maybe he's working on Thing #2.)

Some folks protest the Impeach Bush signs by putting up signs of their own.

I did this once out of ignorance once when I was too much of a newbie to know the true reason behind the signs’ placement.

It is a dreadful annoyance when this is done with another big blue sign featuring red, white, and yellow lettering. I let this individual know my view on the matter.
