i think it would be interesting to talk about this this project posthumously because i think it gives content creators and LL a lot to think about. it may have failed as a sustainable first player shooter because of problems but in my opinion it was a great success in pushing sl to some of its limits and bringing the SL client to its knees.

Thanks Jau, yes, I'd have to agree that this was indeed the case -- that is EXACTLY a point of making progress, and getting the Lindens to think about how to improve SL in terms of game dev features, lessening lag, and more. The community works hand-in-hand and we all improve. Things get better.

Kind of like, when we get "text on a prim" or whatever, XyText may be seen as obsolete and antiquated, but during its time of invention and subsequently afterwards, it really has done a LOT for the area of literal display in SL.

Some peeps may be disrespectful and say "Wow, that sucks?" but if some brave souls don't step up to the bat and pave the way for the future, who will? We may not ride around the streets in horse-drawn carriages as once was vogue, but they are nevertheless the foundation upon we build our supercars and time-travelling Deloreans upon. *grins*

These are experiments. At the very least, "Failed Successes". ;)

I'd be happy to be interviewed about the InnerLife project, which is just getting started. The two big hurdles are:

1 - Incorporating input hardware that isn't supported by LL (biometric devices), probably using the notorious XML-RPC

2 - Getting enough interest worked up in a "game" that doesn't involve shooting anyone or winning a pile o'Lindens

I am still quite a newb ( I took over an old account of my buddy's a couple of weeks ago), but I believe XML-RPC only communicates OUT of SL at the moment unfortunately. It will poll SL info, but not poll biometric info from SL. PLease correct me if I am wrong or post if there is a useful new function in 1.6 to do this.

I've asked around a lot about communications in SL and I'm told the only way to communicate from web to SL is through the emailing functions. I imagine the signals received from the sensors would be digital, s0 it WOULD be possible to poll the data every xx seconds and email the digital coded data into SL to be decoded by an object's script. However, I'm doubtful of it's efficiency. If this is your only option, some additional signal processing and some creative development thinking could still make an interesting community project.

The idea is interesting though. I am an electronics engineering grad with a lot of programming and interfacing talent. IM me in world if you could use my help or even just some pointers and I'll do my best. Like I said, still a newb, but learning fast =D.
