For the last 16 hours on every attempt to get in I get the 'The system may be down' message.

Paying big time?

I think you need to familiarize with the figures that are involved when a real life grid is involved with real life hardware, real life programmers and a real life enterprise.

The prices the Lindens charge (and i speak of whole islands and stuff) are chickenshit compared to the most extreme bargains in real life.

The availabilty you get here is in the range of 99% (based on a year) and that is exactly what you get for this price.

Paying big time. GIVE ME A BREAK

Some of us are paying "big time" Clinton. And we do depend on the system being available
to all at will in order to generate the funds necessary to cover our obligations to Linden Labs. I can tell you for sure that the tier clock didn't stop ticking at it's normal rate the past week. And it hurts!

Even for those of us who are not paying "big time" we are still paying for a service we have not been getting for the better part of a week now. We pay for the service so the Lindens should fix this problem as fast as they can. Now I understand "acceptable downtime" but this is insane. Not even EverQuest stayed down for this long at any single point.

Do you think that the Lindens are gonna credit people's accts or decrease land tier fees for at least a little while because of this? No they are gonna continue charging us even while the system is down.

Again I do understand that they have to update the servers and the software from time to time and while that is happening usually no one can get in for a few hours but this problem has been going on for 4 days now at least that I know of. And just now they start working on it by issuing an update?

Yeah i bet they do that on purpose comrade.

And if you own a business here and rely on the income it generates you might consider a second string to your bow.

How about a repair shop for FisherPrice toy trucks or a Barbie Beauty-Parlour.

This is a game. Noticed?

Pfft

Lmfao!

I can see your point some peole DO go on like their REAL LIFE depends on the Second

HOWEVER

Some ppl invest hundereds of dollars in SL to own land its not our job to judge their sanity or reasons but If I had a lot of money invested in SL and my investment was dependant on other players being able to log in and 'invest' their L$ then Id be ticked off too

But your post made me giggle anyway....your not from the UK by any chance are you?

seems like a kinda British sense of humour to me :P

Solution for Large Inventories?
05-16-2005 08:13
Hi!

My huband and I used to play Ultima Online. Over there, you could only carry around "X" amount of weight. You also had a bank vault you could put 5 "X" the amount of stuff into.

Since we don't have weight limits in SL--and we don't WANT weight limits--I would like to suggest that SL sell Vaults people could install on their property to store Inventory in.

Personally, I carry around a lot of stuff (altho I don't think I made it to the terabyte category yet). Since I paid for most of it, I certainly don't want to delete any of it. On the other hand, there IS a lot of it I rarely use. If I could move objects from my Inventory to a Vault on my property, I most certainly would. Since the vault wouldn't have to register every time I logged in or teleported, I suspect this would help with some of the problem.

Inventory Vault

Apple,

Toneless Tomba's store has 'inventory organizer boxes' you could use as your Vault on your land.

Fill them, leave them in world, and your character inventory is shrunk.

I really should try this myself. 17000+ items is a bitch to load the first time I need something from my inventory. It lags me to hell.

-Best of luck - :)

Ah, so furball, you are the reason I couldn't get logged in for 6 hours last night! LOL - Just kidding! I am still trying to figure out the exact correlation why it would be tough to log in if there are issues with inventory. You would think it would be set up to wait until AFTER you had successfully logged in before trying to access your inventory. That is what streaming inventory was meant for, right?
