If you've been wondering when your friends are online, this will help. The "SL Friends Online" widget (snappy name, I know) shows, in Dashboard, which SL friends are currently online by showing a subpage from the SL website. As such, you'll need to log in to the website (probably with Safari) before it'll work. There will be release notes etc. once it's been tested. SLFO shouldn't cause much load on the SL site (as it only refreshes when you bring Dashboard up with F12) but if there are any Lindens out there who'd rather I'd not do this, please speak up. Check it out and let me know what you think. It's my first widget, so please be kind. EDIT: Please skip straight ahead down the thread to the new v2. http://secondlife.funwithstuff.com/SL-Friends-Online-v1.4.wdgt.zip

Make with the codes, LL, or the little bunny gets it.

If the subpage loads the cgi or whatever which shows online status, certainly LL can offer us the codes necessary for doing the same in our widgets or webpages. I don't see how this would overload any servers or anything.
I want my online status bar!!

I started using this yesterday after it was pointed out to me, and like it. I've told my other sensible (i.e. mac using) friends about it too!
Two comments - and I don't know how doable they are.
1) Space for a longer list pretty please? Some of us have been in SL WAY too long and have stupidly long friends lists!
2) Linked to 1) really - dragging the scroll bar moves the whole window. That might be a widgets thing, and the arrows at the end work just fine, but it is still catching me since I'm usually a click up and down kind of girl.
And for a slightly different functionality - an alarm for particular people logging on maybe? For days when you just have to catch that certain someone but need to be doing other things this would be really nice, if a little scarily stalkerish!

For days when you just have to catch that certain someone but need to be doing other things this would be really nice, if a little scarily stalkerish! Well, those things both bothered me too. That first widget linked above was pretty basic, so I've gone back and hacked together another one. Try the new version 2, linked below -- now resizable and with a functional scroll bar. Comments welcome. Note there is no "stalker" functionality as yet. http://secondlife.funwithstuff.com/SL-Friends-Online-v2.1.zipEdit: Now v2.1. I didn't have enough friends online last night to tell that the icon was under the scroll bar. It's not perfect but should work better than the last one. If you got v2, please re-download.

On the Sweet Vitriol link.. Parent Object is set nomod. This means you cannot set the preferences notecard. oops. It does an llOwnerSay every 10 secs reporting avatars in range. Evil. Needs an option to turn that off. Otherwise it is good. that is all

Next version.
01-15-2006 12:12
I'll probably get a new version out tomorrow that has ability to turn off avatar reports, etc ( and the time between reports is 30 secodns. ) Someone caught the partent object perms already and I've updated whats in the vendor to give you the abliilty to modify the parent so you can deal with the notecards. Sorry about that, my testing with my alt didn't turn that up for some reason. Hit me in game with an IM and I'll get you a new server with parent perms turned on. The new version will also be a free upgrade for you guys, I totally spaced that some peole woudln't want the visitor report. lol.

If you open up chat history and choose the widget server, you can 'mute resident'. Not a permanent fix, but should get you buy till next version.

The friends online part doesnt seem to work for me. The visitor counter and SL stats seem to work fine though. Any ideas.

Make sure you are logged into your account on the second life web site. That section is grabbed straight from the second life website and relies on the cookie being set. Widgets use the same framework as safari, so just log into your SL web account using safari and it should start working.

Thanks will try. Is the new version of the server available yet. I would be very interested in interfacing the server with some sort of PC front end as well as I use both PC and MAC.
