If you are on OS X 10.3.9, doing a 'clean install' doesn't help. I installed today's update by downloading the new client from the website, and dragging the 4 update files to replace the previous ones. Didn't use the Updater. Still fails.
I wonder if the client-side rolling release going down now will fix the Mac clients. I rather doubt it. _____________________

Nope. Not this one. Apparently maybe Thursday, or maybe Friday, whenever LL decides to get around to releasing the Mac client fix, which they are holding back because they want to roll in some unrelated bug fix too.

See this thread for updates on the status of the 10.3.9 bug.

Brent, I don't mean to complain, but if you guys knew that you weren't going to release the patch for 10.3.9 for two or three days, I wish you'd said something about that earlier, while the stores were still open here, so I could have purchased 10.4 tonight.
As it is, I'll have to wait until tomorrow. I mean, some of us are trying to earn a living here.... _____________________

We didn't know -- other high-priority bug fixes reared their ugly heads and they needed to be addressed. The number of residents using 10.3.9 is very slight, but vocal (hi ya'll!
![]() The bug wasn't initially detected because we had run all the compatibility tests before a "fix" that wasn't expected to cause any harm went in. It harmed, we learned, I now have a craptastic iMac G5 with a 64 (!) mb video card and 10.3.9 in it sitting on my desk where my oh-so-hawt iMac G5 with a 128 mb video card, 10.4 and 1 gb RAM used to be ![]() _____________________

Why QA at all?
05-24-2006 21:27
Why not push the bugfix out now and run the QA and other bugfixes into a new version friday (or later) after all how can the quality be worse than completely unable to log in?

Meanwhile the due date for my next land use fees...
05-24-2006 23:09
...is getting closer, not farther away. I need to sell a lot of land before my next billing date. A little hard to do when you can't log in!
I doubt they will do anything to make up for the lost time. I mistakenly lost my first land rights and tried to reinstate. Their answer was basically "You are out of luck. Next time, be more careful and don't trust anyone in SL." Make sme sad i've given them so much $US. I only joined 10 days ago, and am saddened by all this. |

Rent to be paid, appointments missed, sales lost....this is like having a broken-down car, a severed phone line, and typhoid all at the same time. Let's get this fix out there!

Gee, nice to know the Lindens care so much about us...
I am glad that I already went around and updated payments on my vending spots in the malls. I won't lose any of them, for being out a few days. I also took the precaution of warning my landlord that this update might blow me away, because frankly, I no longer expect the Lindens to bother testing systems as low as mine. Brent? Try testing on a January 2005 Mac Mini, with only 32 MB of VRAM! Then maybe you'll appreciate life at the bottom of the hardware food chain. I most certainly WILL lose Lindens over not being able to get my newest dresses into the malls as soon, and not being able to complete a building project for a customer as soon... Oh, the work will get done eventualy, and the dresses will sell eventually, but this still sucks. A friend of mine had a hot date this morning, that he had been looking forward to for weeks. His ladyfriend is in-world waiting for him, but like me, he's locked out! He can't even get a message in-world to her, to tell her why she's getting stood up for their date! _____________________

Think there's any chance that we'll get any kind of refund for tier and fees between the time the bug was fixed, and however many days it is before the Lindens bother to implement it for us?
I mean, the bug itself was unintentional, and not their fault. But the delay in fixing it is intentional, and most certainly is their fault. Doesn't it say somewhere in the TOS that time that they deliberately leave players locked out of the game is refundable? Meanwhile, I'm losing sales, too, since the new script I wrote to update all my candles so they'd work with the new Liighting isn't being added to them; and the new candles aren't being set out in world. Sigh. _____________________

I used to deliver for Pizza Hut...
05-25-2006 07:56
How's that for a subject line?
My point is I was told that 15% of Pizza Hut's budget was for customer service. Any time anyone had an issue with their pizza they either got it free or got a coupon for another free one. That was 20 years ago and the company is still going strong. Instead here I see them nickel and diming us for everything. I mean, why should it cost $10L to upload a snapshot or jpg? And I hear the the dwell money is going away too. I have only been here 10 days. I love my treehouse and the people I have met. But this is the most I've ever spent on the internet for something and it's starting to look like it's just not worth it. Add to it all the fact that it's not very clear to the newbie that land use fees are in real US dollars. I bought a lot of land thinking LUF was in Lindens. Boy was that a rude awakening. Can't sell the land to get my tier level down if I'm locked out. How their customer service department responds to this will determine whether I stay or try to get my money back. |

I appreciate you making this "sacrifice", but you also really need people running and testing on the minimum system configuration, preferably with an Internet connection like a resident would have, not a LAN connection. If such a system is intolerable to you guys, you should consider it intolerable to us, too. OTOH, at least you guys even have a Mac client! Everyone is always talking about going to this world or that world instead. Not one of them does.... Although it may be less of an issue once I finally get a MacBook Pro ![]() (I really don't mean this to sound as snippy as I suspect it does sound, but I do want to get the concept across. Apologies in advance for any snippiness that I can't seemingly edit out.) |
