Anyone running the 10.5 dev build with SL on it? Any issues?

The expected release date is oct 26th so I will be switching soon and i'm expecting SL to be the only program i'm using frequently to cause problems so if anyone has any experiences with the lates builds of leopard please post here.

SL Client working on Mac OS X 10.5
10-12-2007 21:41
Hi Bobo, I've been running the latest SL client (1.18.3.5) on Mac OS X 10.5 (9A559) for about a week now with no problems at all, seems very stable if not quite as quick as it was for me under Mac OS X.4.10 (though there are sure to be further optimizations to this build before its released. One of the goals of OS X.5 was to maintain API functionality so as not to break applications and in my testing so far they seem to have achieved this quite well.

Hope this answers your question.

Kosmo,

Have you or Poppy Linden tried 10.5 on the MBP with 8600 GT graphics to see if it cures the Jira 1978 problems?

For Poppy's answer see:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1978[URL](This is the same respone the Blizzard reps are giving at WOW , nondisclosure agreement keeps them from saying anything about 10.5) I guess we will have to wait till the 26th for an answer.

That's good news as it's now officially the 26th! Think I will need to freeze myself for 9 days :-)

Well my leopard got delivered a few hours ago via fed ex I installed it leopard is pretty amazing, although sl is very choppy on it, Sometimes it is smooth but it gets choppy at times, it kind of ruins my whole sl experience, It looks as if the new gaming engine in leopard is not yet totally compatible with SL. :((

When I was on the old OS X had no problems at all :(((((

OMG what a disastrous experience. Just installed it and now Second Life just runs like crap! It tears all the speed out of leopard! And I thought it couldn't get any worse then before.

Grrrrrrrrrr Kosmo!!!!!

Question are you a real mac user or did you just test it on a mac machine because SL runs like crap just like I thought when i asked the question. I've never seen a program work that bad after an upgrade. I know this isn't your fault but common you could have said that SL is your worst nightmare on leopard?!

What a bummer on such a fine day like leopard day (how can i put even more drama in it)

Ok and now please for an honest reply. How long will it take till Second Life will run descent on Leopard? Can we expect one soon or is their so much more to fix first?

edit: I removed the smilies from this post. I'm furious

It seems second life is again eating 100% processor power and also even though I have 2 gig of memory its running in to virtual memory! I have been playing with the settings but still no luck! I finally got it down to using 60% of my processor by enabling opengl vertex objects , although it brought down my cpu usage to about 60% it would still get choppy just like turning pages on a book, my guess is it's because leopard is now a 64 bit operating system and on top of that it has new gaming core technology, looks like the folks at linden lab will have to do some updating to their software to get this fixed, they need to adjust it all in their software.

I hope this doesn't turn out like vista to where it still hasn't been completely fixed and is still an ongoing upgrade, It really says that someone there really needs to get their software upgraded!!!

What? Vista still not fixed? OMG I will go bankrupt like this. There is no way that I will be able to use second life if it runs like this.

Yeah vista still does not work properly if you go to second life downloads page you will notice they still do not say Windows Vista they still say Windows XP, and the last time I installed vista on my thinkpad lap top and ran second life it didn't work correctly. It was very bad performance as well, then today when I upgraded my imac 20 inch to the new leopard sl is just choppy it's terrible performance like turning pages on a book literally, I'm hoping there will be a fix for this, I mean it's kind of bad if you can only run SL on older machines , if you think about it windows xp will stop sending out security updates eventually then it will not be safe to use XP as well as the old OS X might do the same thing so it's like if people stay with their older OS to play SL it's kind of a security issue if you think about it.

I'm sending an angry support ticket as we speak! What is this for nonsense I ask information before upgrading and get goddamn lies! What is this for a company?

I don't understand why this happened. It's 2007 and I can't get even correct information from a company that charges me every month 356 dollar to rent a part a of a server?

Yeah, I have a private island as well and pay a lot of money for it too, so I am feeling the same but then you have to think how top secret apple is about their products and how they don't really give many people information etc, so hopefully they will have an update for SL in a few days after everything cools down, I am in live chat as we speak and no one yet knows if SL is compatible with leopard, so it's going to take some time! But I do know this, I will not be downgrading to an older version of OS just to play SL, I will just wait it out! :-)

My day is so ruined now. Second Life was the last program I checked if it worked. The time between install of leopard and opening Second Life was like "wooooow, sweet, amazing, so cool, ooooh i am so happy".

Well i'm glad their is more fun to Leopard than there is to Second Life. I'm off exploring the good side of computers now.

Take care digital!

Good luck to you! I'm sure eventually there will be an update! I can only hope cause I do not plan on running xp on boot camp or downgrading my version of OS X to anything earlier then leopard!

Are there people with the official Leopard release who don't notice issues?
