Government in SL is like a blind man on a bicycle. Sure, it can be done - but odds are there's going to be a big mess not far down the road.

Just one thing: Enforcement of contracts.

And even for that, we should try to find a non-governmental way of handling contracts first.

Let's put the anarchists in charge.

wait, that would be an oxymoron

aren't the anarchists already in charge? (look around)

wait, that's an oxymoron

Like I need another condo association / PTA / neighborhood watch / sherrif's office / town council / planning commission / court system / zoning board / building inspector / county commissioner / state legislature / house of representatives / senate / presidential election / united nations / federation of planets.

SL is way too simple, let's screw it all up.

oops that was more than one line. That's ADD for you.

I'd like a government in SL that brings us all together and makes us happy.

^ yes, terribly unrealistic, but it's definitely what I want.

Stringent enforcement of PG standards within so-called any prosecutable "private" spaces to be maintain by a group using every camera trick possible so as to provide maximum rule enforcement.

I will govern your sim and you will be my slave. That's why this forum exists. It's a tool the Lindens created specifically to enslave you.

But wait! Oh no! You've posted the words "you will never govern in my sim" time after time like a parrot in this forum. That is the only thing that could have stopped me! How did you know? Argh!

:p

no resident is an island

andrew linden points out there is a commons in sl.

residents have what is theirs, and there is the commons.

the policies regarding the commons changes, with resident input. while this may or may not be government, it gives the lie to the notion that individuals can do things in isolation without affecting the commons or being affecte by the commons. that is to say "leave me alone" doesn't quite work. a more realistic position of "bother me as little possible" might make more sense. structuring limits on how decisions about the commons affects the residents might be fruitful. might not.

My reference is in regards to a game-wide player run government which is what I perceive the spirit of this thread to be in which case "leave me alone" works just fine.

I dont have the time and patience to read all of this crap.
Say it in a SINGLE LINE.
What is the #1 thing you want from a hypothetical SL government?
I want SL government to crush all who oppose or annoy me!

Or I want pecan pie. I'd really prefer pie.

What do I want?
04-15-2005 14:52
I want a government who will let me rule their seas, plunder their trade ships, bribe their port authorities, and hold rank one step above their governor.

or in a word,

Corruption! ;) (it's bound to happen)
