I dont have the time and patience to read all of this crap. Say it in a SINGLE LINE. What is the #1 thing you want from a hypothetical SL government? This way we may even avoid the usual drama. Here are some suggestions:
"I want SL to have a government so it can enforce zoning" "I want to help LL deal with griefers" "I want to roleplay politics and government in SL" "I do not want government because it may reduce my freedom" "I do not want government because we can already do it with the group tools"
If this thread goes well, I'll make a poll with the top lines and we can all vote for them.

I do not want government because we can already provide governance with improved group tools.

Continued Linden governance gridwide; resident governments within areas purchased for that purpose.

Grid-wide Linden Governance. Player-run government among residents wishing to participate in those projects, and constant assurances that those goverments can not impose their will upon non-citizens outside of that government's land.

I want a robust, self-sustaining, democratic form of government so people can band together and create permanent projects that live on past the participation of any one player and can compete against nondemocratic corporate-run sims.

Nonexistance, so that Linden Labs employees can do their job of "keeping house" without hindrance and I can enjoy the game without zealots thinking they can run the place

From: Random Unsung I do not want government because we can already provide governance with improved group tools. (Ulrika risks taking the thread off topic by reminding Prokofy/Random, that group officers that provide governance using improved group tools are by definition a government.)

Nothing, they can play out their hobby in their sims, and the rest of us can go on with our second lives without having to worry about what the hobbyists deem to be acceptible builds, behaviors, business practices, etc.

LL is the "government", who needs to give us significantly improved group tools to implement our vision of inWorld governance

I don't want a player run government, but instead prefer to deal with Linden Labs and play happily in Chaos.

Stay out of my business and the business of every one else LL is enough government for all of us, if no one is being harmed by an action don't go sticking your nose in where it does not belong.

I say no to government in SL, other than for those who BUY their own land and govern each other within the sim.

I have nothing against those with their own sim setting up whatever government they desire, but I am completely against any grid-wide player-based system that would give any player(s) authority over me and what I do on my own land.

Government: Less Guns, More Butter
04-11-2005 13:29
I wish to be nothing less than the uncontested Mistress of my realm, when on land I own.
The way SL works now, I pretty much have that, more or less. I can shoot people who piss me off, and completely ban those who I dont want around. And at the same time, I can't force people to stay on my land. I can't _TRULY_ violate their inate rights nonconsensually. (That I know of).
This is perfect libertarianism. Why screw a good thing up with MORE Government? The wise sage rules as if cooking a small fish.
