From: Ghoti Nyak If, at some point in the future, Linden Lab decides to implement an overarching player-based government system, or components of these systems, then each of us will have to look at the situation and decide for ourselves if it’s worth staying. I think it's time we put these player-based government fears to rest once and for all. It will never happen. LL's philosophy has always been to create a relatively unrestricted virtual environment, leaving the content-creation to the users. An overarching player-based government simply is not in line with this philosophy. I believe the existence of this forum is in line with their philosophy, as they see opt-in governments and self rule as just another form of content creation. See? Everyone relax. Who knows, someday you might join an opt-in sim with self rule. ~Ulrika~

From: Kim Charlton On the other hand: if you take a relaxed look at the documented era of human history, every society seems to develop a kind of government after some time. (Even small tribes have that and one could argue that even families have one.) It is interesting to see how much people in societies with elaborate govermental system abhore 'government' and how much people in chaotic or - temporary - anarchic societies crave for government no No NO NO NO! If you look at the rise of surplus created by the neolithic revolution (about 10 K yers ago) it is only then that you can see the rise of governments. With the abandonment of nomadic lifestyles comes accumulation of surplus that leads to the creation of elite classes dominating the lower ones. There are extant (exisiting) groups currently in the human population that do fine without government, mostly bushmen and other small bands. I can only imagine that our friend Invect desires to be a member of the new SL elite. Bosh! For once a society is forming that is completely voluntary and not dependent on physical needs like food ro violence. Demanding a creation of an elite class to "rule" us is as pointless as it is insulting.

We live in a dictatorship, my friends. Accept it. Delude yourselves into thinking how when you are king of your sim you'll change the world. Phillip is our dictator.
We'll never have true representative government. Nor should we. I may not always agree with LL but I trust them. Some of you nudnicks who want to rule the world would be absolutely clueless in how to deal with real issues.

From: Bruno Buckenburger I may not always agree with LL but I trust them. i don't trust them. but i can often predict what to expect from them. and that is sufficient for most of my purposes. having ll state their governing policies makes my predictions better. and i like that. however, were i the linden administerin body, i'd want help from the residents to take care of some of the details. there's a lot of work out there, and ll had very many pressing issues in addition the administrivia. if some of this administrivia could be passed onto to volunteers, e.g not employees who need to be paid us$. then i'd see that as advantageous. and if you think about it, you'll see that ll has done this on more than one occasion. sl residents have done work for ll, and sl residents have help formulate policy in sl.
