What is the point of having Lindens?

They make good breeding stock. Where do you think the Grim Babies came from.

I have to say I am with many of you in the fact that there is Lindens that just wont repsond. And there are some that if you PM them and they arent so tied up with something they will pop in! Most of the Lindens that I have dealt with that have been very much willing to come and help out seem to be from somewhere besides the US! No Im not bashing on US Lindens or hte citizens of the US hell I am a self proclaimed redneck,

Very Good point...No really mainy we need in world Linden ( GOOD ONES ) to keep order......98% of them do. The others well.........Frankly the game is so large and the need for good lindens are becoming hard to fine it seems. I can name many man in world lindens that do a wonderful job. Where i say other lack the call of the NAME "LINDEN" as a title........ I am not flaming thembut many are having the same though these days.

I think this thread is touching on a real problem, which is like one of those B-grade movies on the ScFi channel. The monster is still sleeping and not yet awake. However, we are feeling the ground shaking from it’s tossing and turnings as it awakens.

I once belonged to a chat group. If you felt someone was being obnoxious, you just clicked on the ignore button and they went away. Here you can’t really do that. I had a friend in SL who found herself griefed by a certain individual and his gf. I know she was griefed because I was there several times and saw it. We both filed Ars over and over. A Linden came out once or twice and saw evidence but nothing was really done. Today, she and her partner are both gone from SL. The constant griefing drove them away. SL has lost two of it’s citizens because nothing was done. I am sure this story is only one of many, just like it.

Obviously, the Lindens can’t spend all of their time acting as a police force. There aren’t enough of them. Because I am in three different volunteer groups, I meet several of them and know how hard they work and, the time they spend trying to develop better systems and tools for us. If they had to spend all of their time being a police force, nothing else would get done.

As a mentor, there are times I wish I had the power to stop a griefer annoying everyone at the Welcome Area or Help Island. I think I would use it judiciously and wisely. However, not all mentors would. The power would go to the heads of some and they would make all mentors look bad. Even if all mentors handled themselves correctly and only used the new police powers in constructive ways there would be many who perceived otherwise. Look at what happened when the ResMods started working the forums. You would have thought, from reading some posts, that the devil had entered and taken over each and every one of them.

So what can Linden Labs do? Hiring more Lindens to make the Linden Police force would be expensive. Giving special residents police powers would be risky and undoubtably cause a major uproar. What about the Ignore button from the chat room?

Can the software be made so that if I click ignore on a person he would just go “poof” in front of me. He/she can’t interact with me and I can’t see or hear him/her? How long would a griefer keep trying to bump someone or play loud music if they realize that noone sees or hears them?

Or, Phil Linden could just give me goddess power. I promise as Queen of the world to only take advantage of a few people who deserve it. LOL Off with his HEAD!
