I went to Staraxes store in avalon when i had enough money to buy something..and it was gone..since then hes not even selling to the public...or is he ?

Yes, as Light Waves, but the old stuff is intentionally retired.

Since this thread started, he did do a little interview explaining what happened there. In brief, he thought the wand product would make it harder to sell standalone work and that the name was a liability.

if he sells as Lightwaves I'd like to see what he sells..now at this point in my SL when I CAN actually afford to buy his work..NOW i cant seem to find where he sells.

Again Im not knocking the guys talent..but it seems peoples money would be better served to commssion a piece from a up an coming sculpturer who can do the same thing.

I know various sculpturers who have done pieces for me for prolly a fraction of what the original OP would be willing to pay for a statue with staraxes name on it. (and yes..the same quality of work) .

I appreciate they're a fan..I did not mean to be offensive or insulting. Just offering viable affordable alternatives.

Oh and if my understanding was correct..the wand temp rezzed things. I saw it as a novelty item..for those people who were fans to the extreme of being able to temp rez his stuff anywhere. Liability?..in what context? If i want a sculpture..i want one sculpture..and fully rezzed..not constantly re rezzing..the scripting is too hard on the server...so..it seems to me as a consumer Id be more willing to buy his pieces indiviudally to add to my own builds.

Oh, various Light Waves items are put on sale at Greenies, but nothing on a permanent basis as far as I've seen. You can keep up on what's offered at rezzable.com though.

I'll take a look Ive seen that LM posted in several peoples picks..but it doesnt give a desript as to it being Lightwaves store so i never took note.

Thankyou. This time Ill buy some stuff so next year when the name "Lightwaves" becomes a liability i'll be able to resell the pieces for ungodly amounts :p

Just kidding...not really.

His stuff was good in 06. I've seen alot better since then..anyone checked Pumpkin Tripsas work?.. His line of mermaids and merman are outstanding. All of Staraxes work was regular primd stuff..Lightwaves sculpty work is "good" but there are better out there.

I'm not knocking the mans skill but this technique of being mysterious and magical..hidden in the shadows behind alts names..while people buy into this and pay tons of money for statues that now are "common";(as far as talent goes) just wears on my nerves. I never really bought into the whole "socially inept genius idiot savant" thing that a few of SLs creators like to adopt into their avatars persona.

Ive found the work as Starax and Light Waves to be outstanding, if it wernt, mystery or no, people wouldnt demand it like the person who started this thread

i really wonder if its not the mystique of the avatar and all the secrecy hooplah..I can name three artists currently each in the primd statue category and in the sculpty category who are better than Lightwaves or his alter ego.

I mean his primd stuff is over a year old?..there HAS to be better out there now...and the sculpty thing..i went to his sim..i saw the fallen angel..the kissers...i'm sorry..Ive seen better since seeing that...so yea..I wonder if these folks have really seen more thats out there.

Art appreciation is not as complex as you might imagine

Some people don't get it and that's a bit sad.

Youre absolutely correct Dragger, art appreciation isnt as complex as people imagine.
If traffic has anything to do with 'appreciation' then the Greenies and Black Swan have 20374 combined traffic in the 'Places' search.
I most certainly appreciate the black cat there, its breathtaking.
I have also seen other creations that are fabulous but never so many consistently excellent creations by one person as at Greenies and Black Swan....and its not just the sculpting but the texturing...I wish I wish I wish I could ever be as good.

Im sorry but 25000 L for a 148 prims sculpture of a cat is not that big of a deal..(especially when the cat sculpture used no disceranble sculpties to speak of).

Nice texturing?...yes...25,000.00 Linden worth of nice texturing?,..certainly not. and the sculpture itself is for who?..the stray sim owner willing to donate a corner in their kitchen to 148 prims?

I have a friend who recently did his own sculpty version of a ballerina and who plans to add that to his freeby pack...same quality work...free.

I went to greenies excpecting progress...what i saw was an attempt at reinventing wheel .The theme is from an old Land of the Giants TV show AND sim that used to exist back in 05..so..nothing new there either.

Wheres Cutting edge? Again..I'm not saying this person has no talent..they're quite talented...and they certainly think so. What i AM saying is if everyone in SL who displays that level of talent starts charging 25,000.00 L for a 148 prim cat sculpture and forces their works in retirement so the prices will inflate. theres not alot out there anyone will be able to afford to buy..or do..except look at it behind the window.

Hun don't wish you were ever so good...do it...select the blamed cat and look at the toruses used on the toes..the tubes used to make the tail..the spheres for the eyes.
Anyone show me that same cat for under ten prims...THAT impresses me. and theres folx out there doing it.

Go to Zoobys or Animania..Those people are pushing the envelope IMHO.
