Retiring Avatars

This is sort of a shame. I have to think that maybe if the ability to find people on the map was an option you could turn on and off, people wouldn't feel the need to dump their main accounts. I dunno. Anywho, enjoy the silence Jenn. It is nice once in a while.

All I know is that I never under any circumstance want to receive as many IMs as Flip does. Setting SLB cust serve aside, someone is always bothering him about something.

For me. its not so much about hiding, its about associations and stuff. We get stuck in the trappings of our social roles in Second Life much in the same ways we do in real life. I often feel the need to more towards reinvention and that is just what I plan on doing.

As the wife of a rather well known SLer, I completely understand your desire, Jennyfur. Not only do I get messages that should be sent to Siggy, I'm also guilty of thinking of you as half of the "Jennyfur and Flipper" team.

At one point in time, I had to put the following message in my profile "Just because Flipper and I are married in RL doesn't mean that I am his bleeping secretary" You wouldn't believe (well maybe you would) how many times people would IM me and ask me when he was going to be home, when he was going to be online and/or to relay the following messages "Tell Flipper this" "tell flip to call/im me etc when he is online". It used to really piss me off. No hi Jennyfur how are you? just Where is Flipper? You know what I mean? I'm used to his social whoredness in RL and I know that it was inevitable for it too ooze over into SL.

I guess the staunch feminist aspect of my personality demands to be seen as an individual woman.... not as some woman who married some guy and therefore that is the identity chosen. The grand irony is that while Flip and I both have the same last name in SL, I kept my maiden name in RL and cringe anytime someone doesn't realize this and thinks I have his last name.

Just curious...did you decide to not leave? I wish you the best either way. I just keep seeing you post in the forum and keep thinking to myself...didn't she say she was leaving? It's entirely possible I missed the thread of you changing your mind.

Too lazy to log alts into the forums. I'm still around though. Retiring is not as easy as I thought it would be unfortunately between the CNBC interview opportunity, other press stuffs and an opportunity that hasn't been announced yet. so, I am rethinking my retirement. Just never announced anything because I am not sure what I want to do yet. I might use Jennyfur as the business account as opposed to the all purpose account and spend more time under my other accounts. I've been so busy RL that I havent had a chance to finish transferring all my inventory over to the other account.

[left]After a few days of thought I have decided to retire Edav Roark and to use the first avatar that I had in SL, it is the avatar I had in beta, its name is Edav Nomad. I have already transfered everything I could to that avatar and will be in SL a lot more than I am currently. I only used Edav Nomad in the last month of beta and the first month after beta.[/left]

[left]Basically I got Edav Roark when somebody I was involved with at the time wanted to try SL after talking to someone we knew in "There", he will remain nameless but he knows who he is , and we decided to use the same last name.[/left]

Because of this change I am also changing my Yahoo! Messenger screen name to make it more personal. I will send that out to everyone currently on my friends list.

So this isn't completely on topic, but I figured I'd mention...
There's absolutely no reason to get a new yahoo identity and switch everyone
over unless you really want to. You can have multiple IDs linked to one account and they can both be online at the same time.
With yahoo IM open, go to "Messenger" "My profiles" and then choose "create/edit my profiles" and then the rest is self explanatory. It's very handy if you play multiple games and don't want to have to keep switching yahoo IDs. You can even toggle which accounts show up as online. Plus, it cuts down on people on your friend's list from getting the dreaded "I'm switching IDs since I know longer play ____, please add blah blah blah if you still want to be my friend still" messages.

No real point, just saying.

I typed that up half asleep, so forgive me if there was any confusion so I'll clarify it even though I didn't want to name names: Cristiano is the one who got me and my gf at the time back into SL, so you can blame him.

Jennyfur, you have always been so gracious and lovely. I hope I have the honor of running into you someday as your alt, but I can understand the necessity. The decision you've made is good for the spirit. Warm hugs to you and keep your chin up..



Now, This FIC things is not nice, it is a derogatory remark gesturing a certain demographic of people if I am understanding correctly. It had to be explained to me yesterday when someone tossed it my direction... and while it sounded like an insult I just smiled and moved on, later asking a friend what the heck it meant. It's sad we implement terms like this in second life when I see that no such thing exists- and it never has. People are people.
