I am afraid you will have to stick a telephone up Cybin's a$$ *twice*, he moved your post AND talked mostly about Flip. Haha!! Anyhoooooooooooooooooo I just love you for saying out loud what a bunch of us think: people that say "oh FIC isn't a real thing it's not even that bad" but wear a FIC ring and title, yeah mmmhhhh... OH WELL UH!! You rock, I love how you are the REAL independant and true person. I can only wish you luck and lots of fun, and mostly, a peaceful mind. You derserve it. HI5!! Thank you! Its like everyone just proved Prokofy right after months of arguing and proclaiming him a total loon for even suggesting it. There is no FIC -- except that there is. Its a joke thats taken way too seriously. I've always been a bit against the grain when it comes to things like that. I have always hated being lumped into the FIC thing by association. I am looking forward to the freedom of anonymity. _____________________

Well I still think it's complete bullshit, but that doesn't mean that people don't start to take themselves way too seriously. It also doesn't mean that if you get very well known people won't attribute you with all sorts of qualities (both good and bad) that you don't actually have. Fame sort of happens. I don't think it's something people go looking for. Once you have it people will accuse you of being FIC no matter what you're actually like. _____________________

The thing that irked me most about the FIC claims was the implied insult to our creative efforts. You, Flipper, LordFly ... lets face it, anybody who succeeds ... you are all certain to be faced with claims that your success had little to do with your talents. The underlying message is that you aren't good enough to have earned your success, therefore it must be the result of favoritism or (according to rumors about me) nepotism.
Getting a fresh start with an alt sounds really nice, Jenn. Best of luck! _____________________

omigod aimee!! those are just rumors? well, i will stop spreading them now.
jennyfur, i made an alt a long time ago for some of the reasons you list, then promptly told everyone so all my friends know my alt and so then i had to make another alt and soon i had told to many people and so i gave up on it. let that be a lesson to you. _____________________

We've only met briefly here and there, so I can't and won't claim a relationship we don't have, yet I'll wish you fun and freedom in your next phase of SLexistence.
What I can claim is understanding of SL becoming a job, not quite a chore, but something that demands time and attention rather than is pleasurable and fun. Oh, and I've admired your work certainly! To split one's time between a business avie and one that's for you, might seem selfish but I think it's really rather smart. When one comes in world in the business persona (J P), ready to handle stuff and do biz, that's a fun break too. Then, when one switches to the "quieter" (a short calling card list is a huge difference in the amount of background "noise" one gets) avie, the wonders of SL unfold. IM's don't bounce up constantly, cards and objects don't drop in the middle of (parachuting, flying, conversations, whathave you) and you regain the option to choose what your time in SL is to be about! Yes I have alts, and sometimes I use them that way, to escape, although EQII works just as well hehehe. It saved my love for SL, actually came along at just the right time (it's all Jazz's fault) and refreshed my enjoyment in-world. (If you decide you wanna try, IM me and we can talk LOL)From what I understand you'll still have all your stuff out for sale, so that's great! I wish you luck, fun and freedom (of speech, thought, action, time) in your new(er?) avie! *The sky IS NOT falling! The sky IS NOT falling!* SL is what you make it, right? Not what others make it for you? Kinda sorta maybe? hehe Anyone that rains on your parade, so to speak, is afraid of your commitment to fun, the way I see it, except for that sneaky dude w/the dolphin forum avie. He's suspect . _____________________

Wha?
02-28-2006 13:13
The thing that irked me most about the FIC claims was the implied insult to our creative efforts. ... ... The underlying message is that you aren't good enough to have earned your success, therefore it must be the result of favoritism or (according to rumors about me) nepotism. That implies that 100% of your customers are toadying fools that buy your (or other FIC) products merely for the name, every time, all the time. (Ok, IRL designer jeans, but they were clothing!) Oh that's funny, you've got no talent? Yea, all that baked in texture work you do in Maya is something everyone in here does, riiiight. And is FIC determined by avie birthdate? or secret handshake? or just a jealousy factor? Or is it by a (can't imagine how anyone could figure this out for all the claimed/acclaimed) monetary yardstick? Jennyfur, I hope your new anon avie will chime in here w/something cheeky! hehe _____________________

I know some of what you mean, Jennyfur. I've been staring at the same stripey back for a long time now. Back in December, I finally decided that running a free apartment building was more effort than I wanted to put into a hobby/passtime/entertainment. And so I made the decision to close the apartments. Not three hours later, Linden Labs announced they were phasing out the Developer Incentives, the very thing that kept the apartments running. I would have thought I was FIC-er than even *I* knew... Except I hadn't told anyone my decision yet.
![]() Since then, my RL job has been taking all of my free time. But, as anyone that knows what my RL job IS could tell you, that drag on my playtime is about to end. Now I just need to find the right activity to engage my attention once more. Right now, my land sits fallow. But I'm not going to abandon my Tiger persona. He's just resting his stripes for the moment. I made my last possible alt recently and have been having more fun with it that I had with Tiger in quite some time. Tiger is a workhorse (to mix mammalian metaphors), but the new alt is all play. This fresh look at the world of SL through new eyes has been... eye-opening. I can see quite a number of things that need work if the lives of newbies are to be improved. I think this new alt will be a dual-prime, along with Tiger, for the forseeable future. The two will form the dyanmo to get my creative juices flowing agian. I hope. ![]() Good luck with the new alt. I'm having good luck with mine so far! ![]() _____________________

Getting a fresh start with an alt sounds really nice, Jenn. Best of luck! I remember hearing once that "the people who live in the palaces dont see the slums from their window". I'm no believer in the 'FIC', as that gives an implication of far more deliberate conspiracy than I think it is. But one saying one is only being treated in such a way 'because youre successful' is just an easy excuse to put up blinders and pretend those slums dont exist. "If the people dont have bread, let them eat cake!" Or to coin a phrase of my own...if it is colored brown, it smells like brown, and tastes like brown....it may not quite be chocolate on the end of one's nose. I guess not all of us have the luxury of being able to bitch about being 'FIC by association.' Clearly someone's opinion of themselves is far higher than the rest of the SL population does, to even think it. - Newfie _____________________

I'm sorry you feel that way. Our perspectives are radically different. I think if you ever got to know me, you would change your mind. That's a double-sided statement. Can't say though I'd ever be the one complaining about having to change my in-world ID because I was 'considered too special'. Takes a lotta ego to think a person is 'too special/FIC'. - Newfie _____________________

Takes a lotta ego to think a person is 'too special/FIC'. You mean Jenn? (She is the one talking about doing this, not me.) I have never known Jenn to have an excessive ego or to have considered herself "too special." She is a very grounded person and I think her reasons for moving to an alt are resonable. _____________________

I find excessive praise to be unsettling and don't always like the trappings of being popular. _____________________

Jennyfur will still come around on occasion once I get my accounts switched up and inventory transferred which is sucking balls at the moment between switching permissions, having to make new folders and send them on to my new avie. _____________________
