I can see people wanting simple innocent quiet with someone special: two avatars, a blanket and lots of blue sky.

(Pardon me for interjecting, but this sounds awfully romantic!)

Just to clarify a little, we're not saying that folk can't rent out these areas or live in them - we just don't recommend it because of the relative performance compared to normal regions.

Basically: "We warned you... So don't go complainting to us if they're slow, laggy, or lacking prims? But your free to do whatever you want with them."

Simple as that...

We started rent/sell land in high area / low prim regions about 2 weeks ago. Everybody who get land there receive detailed information about the nature of these sims. They know that these sim are not suitable as gathering place for large groups. We also did the performance tests before and they had no problem.

If people experience lag or special technical problems they can currently trade in their low prim land for normal land in Dreamland. As far as I remember only one resident made use of this option and not because of performance trouble but because he has realize that he want to use more prims.

Anyway, I am always excited when people can be offer more choices. Diversity is really what make the economy and the SL world richer :-)

I think these new sims are a great option. Lots of privacy, space... I checked one out, perfect for couples! I was seriously tempted by all the space. It might not be great for groups, but for me and my girl, I'd love to rent one.

Bearing in mind that these are most likely 'recycled' old sims that have been bought and paid for previously, the $1000 'setup' fee is a con. You don't pay full price for second hand goods. There should be a small charge perhaps, but not the cost of a full sim.

You know that's the price for 4 of these sims? So the setup price is a quarter of a normal sim. Recycled sim? I don't think so. You can't just imagine stuff and 'bear it in mind'. I was in one and it was in a whole different part of the world.

I had 937 prims at my first land it was for sure OK... I had outdorr and indoor furniture fun things.. a stylsih house and frogs.. bridges.. tress.. a garden,, a piano (primeater).. art.. and much more..

A low prims sim will be perfect for that.. instead of 4096 you get a hole sim...lots of space.. land... it can be a beaty!

/Tina - Primeater in some cases...

Well I now have some spare $ in my SL account waiting to be spent on an Otherland 'Elbow room' SIM ... assuming they get the go ahead and not a lot changes from what they were originally offering. (a few more prims excepted ;) even cheaper would be acceptable too :D )

The only thing I'll need to do is clarify that what I want to achieve is ok by them. It should end up looking nice (life size ancient architectural model of something that existed 2000 years ago) but I'm not sure they'd give the go ahead considering their covenant, I think I'd be stretching the boundaries a little ... one large structure with large courtyard in the centre of the SIM, probably covering 1/3 to 1/2 the surface area and probably taking all the allocated Prims. Also it'll be quite tall in one place, possibly up to 60 metres but I'm not completely sure yet, it may only be 30 metres. Everything else will remain as untamed countryside which would be ideal for showing it off.... anyway, I do hope these low-prim SIMS take off, I think they'll be good for SL over-all.

These sound like they would be ideal for my automated vehicles. I'm hoping the State of Caladon will be concidering them.

I definitely am.

Not planning on renting them though - more as 'territory improvement' when I first get some, which may be a little while still.

For the next month I'm working on community and infrastructure - our growth has been explosive, and I'm taking steps to ensure that it will be sustainable.

But already have a dozen people trying to lay down money for another Caledon sim, so we'll see...

I love them because they might give us a chance to develop some wide open residential areas for all those who do not want to live in crowded areas. If I just want a large area and I do not need much prims (I am such a type ;)) this concept is just perfect! I would hate to see those sims only usable as fill-outs ...

I'm the same. I can live without prims if it means some open space is available. That is one thing in SL we are sorely lacking- resident owned land that isn't stuffed full of...stuff. A good view is such a hard thing to find in SL. I really hope this option ends up being popular. It will be interesting to see how these sims are received.
