SL Court System

I propose an SL court system.

The system would be a way for residents to recieve retribution for harassment, and other general evils. It would also give people a reason not to create malicous objects or vendors where they shouldn't be.

There would be a judges group. These people would be upstanding members of the community, who could be trusted with such a responsibility. They would have the power to deduct a set amount of money and temporaraly suspend accounts in extream cases. They could also enact a new restraining order feature that I propose.

Plaintiffs would have to pay to have their case heard, to be refunded if they win.

Litigants would have to set a time to meet. If the defendant is not willing to procede, they would atomatically be fined by the judge.

Any other ideas? Let me know what you think...

Damn boy... You'd better start running your little ass away, because I have the feeling you're about to get your head handed to you on a platter.

ugh....i wouldn't trust anyone but a Linden to be a judge what with alts and forum feuds and land baron bullshit and people caring about the value of L$ like it's real money. no body's impartial. who's going to watch the judges?

anyways that sounds like what Linden does now only with paying for your case added. bleh.

Retribution?!

RETRIBUTION?!

Retribution is dropping a particle bomb script on someone's land for a neg rating.

Retribution is orbiting someone and flinging them thirty sims away in half a second because you don't like the way they're talking to you.

Retribution is an attempt to get BACK at eomeone for doing something.

You might want to think about using a different word there.

On top of that... screw what someone in SL thinks should be done to me or others. They don't run this world. LL does.

I think a way for the accused to defend themselves would be nice -- and fair. Just my opinion, don't flame me. :)

having been in a situation myself where drama was taking place, I can fully understand why this would be suggested. If you read the Wired article on the State of Play confrence held in NY city, you would know that drama handling is currently being talked about.

...

Yay for a court system! Then I can become an advocate and become filthy rich !

Seriously, I say, a for-play court system is fine ; but one where the accused can be penalised (lost L$, ban, etc) against his consent is a very very very very big "no-no" in my oppinion.

I'd elect not to turn up. What ya gonna do then, send a pair of court appointed heavies round to drag my ass into court physically? Jail me for a week and revoke my ability to log out? Send the bailiffs round to forceably remove goods I own from my land?

No one - not any player - is going to exert any influence over my SL in any 'legal' form, and the day the Lindens give any single player or body ANY power of government or law in SL is the day I leave.

Not only would I not trust a resident body but frankly I wouldn't trust a Linden one either. I've seen first hand how different Lindens treat different people in similar situations already. It's not 'what the crime is' it's 'who reported it and who is accused of committing it' that matters. And if we can't trust the Lindens not to play favorites, how the hell would we trust a resident body?

I do agree however that there should be an overhaul of the abuse system; even if it is just applying some basic common sense and consistency in how the Lindens deal with residents, and the right to know your accusers and appeal your 'conviction'.

Brilliant, call it retribution, punishment, it's all the same thing. It's meant to act as a deterrent, then it "each punishment" should be televised on Pay Per View so people can truely be deterred.

Heh... Heh heh heh.

AHAHHAHAHAHAHHA

Give them power and see how long they remain "upstanding!" Last I checked, reptiles weren't too good at standing up straight, and that's JUST what you'll get!!!

Kris,

The trouble is, that sig is growing all the time. Soon every post of mine will take up a complete page of the forum!

Huns,

Yes, you are absolutely right.

I think this is a great idea, but only if they get judge Wapner to run it. Nobody else. :D

Considering the HANG EM HIGH mentality that swarms through a lynching party...nah..in world courts would be useless and Judges could be bought off....Hell Id vie to be one of the Supreme justices...just so people could try to bribe me...then Id take the bribe and keep it as evidence for latter court date to fuck them up.

But thats me...and thats how masses work...without a brain....Kinda funny isn't it, you can put 10 inteligent people in a room but give them a topic they are all passionate about and you have effectively reduced their brain functions to lower than a 50 IQ combined.

oh well.

Maybe the court system could then be used to exact retribution against the worst suggestion of all time! ;)

Actually, maybe we could extend that to the whole of the forums! w00!

Tonight at Stage 4: Nominate the most obnoxious, downright stupid or drahma inducing posts in the forums this week, and Jeska Linden will force the poster to TP here for a right royal stoning! Bring your own rocks. No rocks bigger than 5 meters round. No scripted rocks! No other weapons!

They don't need a court system... just a nice big RED "BAN"button! (that they already have might I add)

I put it to you that the ban button is not in fact red, but rather it's black, with a circle or red LEDs round it and a big label marked "Griefer-B-Gone"
