Special Event Worlds/Themed Zones
01-08-2006 10:47
Somehow I missed the post on the proposals site!
It was just below mine, which concerned Themed Zoning started around the outlying areas of Lindenland's main continent. I have a slightly different take on this, that even though it may be expensive to maintain these (and I WOULD donate/contribute to fund them) they are the main reason I want to do Second Life!
I want to help build them, but once built I want them to endure, to be places people GO TO. That's what attractions are...they attract people to a place, where they then spend money. And they are HAPPY doing it! I am!
Anyway, my thought was that zones be set up. Instead of Olde London, how about Old Europe, where all of these things would be located? Western areas all grouped together, and urban/city as well as futuristic and maybe even space in the future.
Infrastructure has a way of invigorating the economy. If someone can actually LIVE in Olde London, or Amsterdam, they will certainly buy land there!
For my two cents, I actually think this is the most critical issue facing Second Life to date...having something to do, a stage if you will, for things other than shopping. (Don't get me wrong...I LOVE SHOPPING!)

Event Areas
01-09-2006 11:22
In these type of special worlds I think it would be a bad thing if land was for sale, rather I would like to see places for rent. Think about it if you have a great SIM like old England do you want someone buying land in the middle of it and putting up Anti-Bush signs or a house that dont go in the area or even people putting up secruity fences all over the place. I for one would not want to see anything like this happen in the great special SIMS. I know they do cost alot to run which is why I say alternate them every few months. this way everyone new and old can see and enjoy these places and have a rotation will save money because they can be rotated on the same servers keeping the costs down. All that needs to be done is a data restore and it will up and running.
