I must admit I am hugely perplexed as to why Robin would definitively state 'No' in answer to the question 'Would you like to see the Lindens provide a better Inventory System'.

So it's perfect, is it, Robin? Absolutely no improvement needed anywhere? You would dismiss every one of the suggestions made in this thread and numerous times before as being pointless and unnecessary?

The inventory, to me, is just about the most important tool we have in SL. And it's also the most poorly implemented. SL 'the experience' could be hugely enhanced with a more feature rich and user friendly interface in this area.

Sure, you're entitled to your opinion like everyone else, Robin, but I'd really like to hear your position explained!

Its Not Just The Clothing Icons

Yes to all of the above, but also, is it just me or has anyone else bought a new outfit lately, only to find that every item has a weird new kinda shirt icon ? whether it's a skirt, shoes, socks etc.

Tis annoying !

I filed a bug report but don't know if it's just me <sigh>

Yesterday I bought several hairpieces, and discovered that the old hair icon is now replaced with the same one used for skin. So now apparently, not only can we no longer make a quick visual distinction between clothing, but also between skin, hair, and who knows what else.

For the benefit of those who slept through 8th grade art class, it takes less time and is more acccurate to distinguish the difference between a pink skirt icon and blue shirt icon than, say, reading filenames like "pink&sexy skirt w swirls" and "pink&sexy shirt w swirls". At this rate, the Lindens may eventually find themselves having to listen to stories like "I was topless in the welcome area because the creator of the skirt I was wearing mistyped it as 'shirt' "

It should go without saying that among the revisions to inventory, one of the things not to do is make things more difficult to organize.

Cause for a three day suspension for both of them, I imagine. :p

In fairness they do know - I had a long exchange of emails about it when I first noticed it with one of the Lindens, and they are working on fixing it. I think you might be right that they regard it as a more cosmetic issue than an important one, whilst I regard it as more important - especially if mixing and matching costume bits! I *think* if you save the outfit you do get the correct icons back...

Thanks for the information Eloise. I'm relieved to hear this is a bug and not a decision on someone's part. Bugs I can understand and live with for a while.

I hope the Lindens see this and at least assure us that inventory help is on the way :)
I think that improved inventory was "on the way" as of October 2003; but I'm patient.
