Kick from Mature areas option

1st, I know Kasandra u are a perv, we had that conversation. LOL - or I'm just an old 35+ something LOL

Second, its my choice to live in an M rated area, as well as my choice not to display M rated material in my shops.

The idea that different servers serve different needs is not something that I originated so don't flame me.

This is a suggestion that gives more options, and as adults, you can chose the best option for you.

A all mature server doesn't mean that its porno land, it means that by entering it, you shouldn't be surprized by what u might see (personally that would probably be the server of choice anyways).

A PG server could be used by those that don't want to see T&A in a recreational game they play. There it would not be allowed. It would also allow minors (under 1 to become more involved in an enviornment geared away from sex.

There could also be a server just like we have now that combines both.

UO (Ultima Online) has massive multiple servers with only one dedicated for un-restricted PvP. If you play that game then you know that you can get whacked anytime anyplace in game.

Other servers have area's designated as areas for PvP and Safe zones, but carry both on same server.

Adding a filter that could be turned on or off depending on your preference, or limiting where you go is a great idea. You don't have to use it if you don't want to, but if you prefer, to stay out of Mature area's it would do that for you.

The idea is that we are given more choices, not to censor or regulate, but that you have additional options available to you. If you go onto a mature server or buy in a mature sim, you have no right to complain.

When I started out in SL, I got a TP invite from someone I didn't know, and I accepted it. I wound up at a place in the sky watching naked AV's having simulated sex. After about 4 hours I got bored and decided to leave ( LOLOL ). If that kind of stuff offended me and I had a filter that I could use to help prevent going to those types of places, why would it be a bad thing.

As it stands, I had a fun time and got a neat paddle to take home with me.

Even if my morals are my own and not shared by YOU, how is this any different than asking for hardware support for my oddball video card?

We human beings are indeed morally trained creatures. You do know better than to murder people, don't you? I hope so ... so there IS a line drawn SOMEWHERE, and all I'm asking for is support for where MY line is drawn.

An optional feature is NOT an imposition. So if you can't handle that, go get a different video card, but I am not about to exchange MY morals for a game. Nobody should have to.

May I should have said not just a perv. And the game doesn't have enough people for different servers yet. Why should I be denied some interesting philosophical debate because I like to change clothes without fear of being reported?

You know, it wouldnt be so bad if the world was separate into 2 different continents, requiring you to explicitly teleport to the mature area. It would be a quieter place for those who dont want to put up with noobs (and prudes).
But alas, now its far too late for such an invasive change.

I don't care much for the moral debate (I'm not as wise as my opinions are strong), but from the technical standpoint, seeming and being are two, usually very different, concepts.

I could see how this feature would not only be a non-trivial feature to implement but potentially detrimental to performance as a whole. I really think Eggy's script idea is keen because its flexible, can be done immediately and doesn't require time from the already over-burdened LL developers.

This script could be modified for a lot of purposes. Perhaps you want to allow yourself to fly over a sim 100m+ but not any lower, or maybe you want to avoid heavy use sims to avoid lag, like Ahern or Morris, or maybe you would like to visit combat enabled sims which have a mature rating.

It isn't for me to decide, but I'd like to see LL avoid features that take time away from solving bugs to meet the agenda of a small subset of the population. No matter how noble or horrible the request may be, especially when there are good in-world solutions.

I am actually not opposed to this idea, as long as once again it is not the forced default. The first time you enter an M area, warn the user and allow them to disable access. If they continue, then voila. Problem solved..

Maybe there should be a mature landmass and a PG landmass, and they can be joined by a single 'no mans land' sim inbetween them.

(Else you can be in a PG sim bordering a M sim, and see M content because you can see into the next sim).

Kind of like a nice funnel.

Fundamentally bad idea. SL's beauty lies in its seamless world. Adding a separate server destroys that and fractures the economy, society, and the concept altogether.

And herein lies the funny part -- there are a good many people who live in PG.. and I'm sure many of them change their clothes from time to time (lord knows I do)..

... so eventually there really is no 'booby safe' environment.

Second rather funny point -- at least 3 of the top makers of 'adult products' live/work/script/create from their houses in PG areas

I know in everquest they did the same thing with pvp and it failed miserably because it got old just whacking people all the time and griefing eachother.

I just get riled when certain people suggest that people who live and play in mature sims are all indecent and porno freaks. I brought up the point of you living in a mature sim because you also own a shop that sells pg items...hence not all mature residents are perverted as Jon might think.

I dont see why this is such a big deal. While i disagree with a lot of Jon's philosophy, it has nothing to do with anything in this particular thread. It was a feature suggestion, and a valid one.

It doesn't have to be on or off by default, just have a dialog box when ya sign up to decide if you want to see that stuff or not. Easy peasy.

Also, think of an alternate use for such a feature : if you happened to be near a M sim with a lot of objects or textures, you could turn off M sims and reduce your own lag.

I don't see where having a choice in the matter is a bad thing at all.

It would be nice to toggle on/off as I have found friends online who have things (churches even) in Mature areas and they've been teleporting me straight to their site (so it's not like I fly through all the boobie buildings). But in the mean time, I just want to be cut off from Mature areas; I don't want to accidentally see boobies or virtual sex at all. I do hope you add the toggling feature in the near future; then again, perhaps it's just as well that this makes it more difficult for me to untoggle it in some late night interest of my passions ... (ha)...

I will tell my friends that you do provide enough customer service (great service, thank you!) to disable access to Mature areas on your own end. This is a WONDERFUL reality in favor of my type of crowd and I thank you VERY much.
