Name: Allow Avatar's to be shorter
Category: avatar
Subcategory: body type
Author: Tyler Dillon
Prop Date: 2005-04-14

Feature Detail
I propose that we allow people to make their avatars shorter than allowed right now. This would allow people to hide in smaller objects and would be a whole lot cooler. Really....how totally awesome would it be to be 2 foot tall? let me answer that for you, it would be sweet. with the ability to make your avatar 7+ feet tall don't you think it is only right that you could be the exact opposite of that and be 2 feet tall?? "no human was ever that short!" well i have news for you http://www.theoctoberclub.com/C_OCTYEAR/Gul%20Mohammed.htm Not only was gul only 22.1 inches tall he had a smile that the ladies died for. He may have not got that tall woman of his dreams to marry but belive me, gul had been around the village a time or two while the hubbys were working. LETS MAKE SLers SHORTER!!!

Feel free to discuss this feature request further...

so the big argument in favor of this is hot midgets?

i'd vote for this if i had votes left tho. short avis not hot midgets.

Two feet (about .6m) is not short enough. "Now I close my eyes real tight, and I wish with all my might, magic words of poof poof piffles, make me just as small as Sniffles!" :D

In other words, .1m tall sounds like a good lower bound to me. :) Especially if we can shift our camera view to suit. Ought to be able to make an attachment that would let you (with appropriate perms) do this to your av on script command.

I dunno about the hot midgets thing, but I definitely would like to see the height limit lowered. Nekokami's suggestion of .1m sounds pretty good to me. I'm just wondering, was there any particular reason for the current height limit?

You know what would be incredibly awesome? A mouse avatar, that could run around everyone's feet! Or maybe even, Tom Thumb? Oh yeah :)

Kind of a moot point , when you can squish the avi down to a small enough ball using anim's. I"ve seen some very ingenouitous uses of anims and gestures.

Its not moot. What good is putting yourself in a ball when your arms and legs dont work or at best dont bend? Let the man be small!

Sorry, I'm perfectly willing to make my own small wings. I've already voted for this.

I like this idea. I also think the actual height in feet and meters should be displayed on the appearance menu at all times so that the resident has some idea how tall he/she is; I think we have a glut of tall players because people don't realize 100% = almost 8 feet tall!

I think this is a great idea. It would allow you to become an animal, ie cat, with the correct size. It is fine that you can be a 'cat' now, but at the same height as a humanoid, but it just isn't as true to the idea if you are about 10 times larger than you should be. Great idea, was trying to work out how to turn myself into a cat of cat size, and this could be the way!
Also in regard to the 'tall' people in SL, yes it would be better if there was a way to know what the per centages actually represented in RL terms. It is no wonder there are so many tall people in SL, not a bad thing, but just would be nice to have a bit more variation and allowance for size choice in avatars.

I'd like to be able to try being a cat at cat-size too. I've been wondering, is it possible to make you have invisible and create a cat out of prims that would move when your invisible av moved? It isn't quite the same and I have no idea of how or if it could be done. But I thought I'd put out the idea just in case somebody else with more skill than I could try making this happen.

Making avvies smaller would be wonderful, but my biggest worry would be fixing the placement of that avvy's "center". I personally have my avvy as short as she can go and I hate having to sit half way down into the floor because my center of balance is off. This is also a problem with "too large" avvies who appear to float.

I'ved managed to be a cat of cat size, I'm even a kitten of kitten size and if I may add, I make a very convincing cat =). It's not the best way but it works really well, I only show a tiny hint of a shadow on occasion and maybe a bit of an invisi-prim that ruins shiny things and transparent but it works very well. Until the way of showing names got changed I could sit in sandboxes and be clicked on and asked to chat because people were thinking I was an object and sometimes I'd use my sitting animation (I edited my cat to have various poses) and sit on a wall next to someone or on someones lap and someone would ask them "Is that cat an attachment?" "How did you rez it in the welcome area?" And... I'm going to share my secret with you!

Just send 700 linden dollars to my avatar and I'll send the complete cat avatar package your way including the four different poses, all the prims you need, body shape and skin and the secret technique used to have a tiny avatar!

Problem with Meatball is that you essentially become a doorstop/brick/statue. No animations, etc.

I'd love to make bird avvies that are actually bird-sized. :>

Smallest bird avvie I've done stands up to about a human's waist... that's good if I wanted to make somewhat oversized man-eating pelicans or something, but it's a bit big for magpies and ravens. :>

Ughhhh... I know what you mean. I also find a lot of animations frustrating, since they often either sink you into the floor or leave you floating if you're not average sized.

With the heights they allow now, im the size of a freakin 10 year old child. Im sick of my AV having to look like a child!! i want him to be a damned midget. Most slers are the height of NBA basketball players (EVEN THE FUCKING GIRLS). its only right that i can be 22 inches tall.

when was the last time you saw a 7ft tall woman in a public place?

im not really mad. But i think ill start opressing tall people.

Why not just make everything else bigger? It's all relative, you know.

Er... was the whole thing sarcasm, or just the offer at the end? Because if you've got such a thing, with animations/poses tied to av events like walk, sit, fly (superkitty pose, I presume) etc., that's a price I'd be willing to pay for it.

I got caught up in the tiny movement over last couple of days and I really liked being small but then I wanted to wear all of my cool clothes and hair. I'm currently :
Height Monitor Globe II: You are 1.222967m, or 4ft 0.148289in tall
but I would lvoe to be shorter, LOL!

The problem I see is that short/small avi's is the distortions caused by the fact that we don't complete control over some of the points. There is also the problem with some of the joints sticking out if you make the limbs to thin. We ethire need more options for avi's (Child, invis etc) or better controls. Mabey a way do add more avatar options would be to have a contest / request for content from players, Posibly folowed by a voteing period, and the top few be added now. I think with a detailed restriction on what is alowed for the avatar messhes some of our builders that use outside tools could come up with good Ideas that should just take a minor change to the format used in the database. Now selecting the avatars would take a little more work (replace the radio buttons of male/female or add an other button with a combo box)
