How do we know the people listed actually "signed" the letter? I have a pretty good sized list of avatar names, maybe I should create some open letters.

From: Wilhelm Neumann well try to sign it twice you will see what happens it only sets a cookie to prevent repeat signature entries, so that's easily circumvented.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville How do we know the people listed actually "signed" the letter? I have a pretty good sized list of avatar names, maybe I should create some open letters. maybe i'm too trusting, but i think the first thousand or so votes are 99% genuine. I'm not so sure after that, given the addition of a certain person's name without her knowledge..and the news now leaking about how easy the signing process is to compromise.

well i guess we have to go on honour although it might be a bad idea but I dunno. Figured it worked on cookies didn't actualy try left it for someone else to ^^
considering LL will probably want 1.5 million signatures to even look at the thing I think we are safe ^^ (yes I know those user numbers aren't real but..)

From: Wilhelm Neumann well i guess we have to go on honour although it might be a bad idea but I dunno. Figured it worked on cookies didn't actualy try left it for someone else to ^^ if you're using firefox (not sure about ie), it's easy to check (tools > options > privacy tab) without fraudulently adding a signature. it's a laudable idea IMO, and i'm glad to be a part of it. I just hope people are nice enough to respect the time it must have taken to formulate, by signing it once only.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville How do we know the people listed actually "signed" the letter? I have a pretty good sized list of avatar names, maybe I should create some open letters. It is not a legally binding document, so adding levels of authentication to it seemed overkill - many online petitions do not ask for anything but your name and email. I have watched the list for anamolies, and there are some background things in place to notice any patterns of abuse. The more well known names on the list were also contacted directly by me to confirm if I did not ask them myself to sign and hear back from them. If someone wants to ruin an effort like this by being a jerk and spamming it, there is not a whole lot I can do - it was preferrable to have the signature process be as convenient as possible.

From: Cristiano Midnight If someone wants to ruin an effort ... by being a jerk Such a thing is beyond conception. I made a post in my Letters to Linden Lab blog and linked to it and included the full text of it the letter and signed the letter. With ony one name. I went to sluniverse.com to check out the forum and saw that sluniverse's homepage is changed to promote the Open Letter project. Do you have a list of other SL homepage's that have also changed their main site in a similar manner? Anyone have any Open Letter Project goodies like shirts and dresses and such?

Possibly they picked the open letter up and held in front of their faces such that they could read it. Alternately, perhaps the opening of the open letter was a miracle. An internet miracle. Internet miracles aren't quite as impressive as real miracles
There's no reason to stop signing it just because LL responded.
The time to stop signing such a letter might be after ALL the bugs are fixed.
Including the illegible text and the oversized sun.

Well in any case we got some result so it was worth it and from the resposes we could have probably had another 1500 sign in too, I could have signed all my alts, but I didn't, but then they are SL residents too Should alts have voting rights too?

The rapid response from Linden Lab may have been an attempt to keep the number of signers from becoming much much larger.
Those who agree with the intent of the letter should still sign it.
