From: Adri Saarinen I signed up. Thanks, good looking site and I think ASP.NET is a much better development platform for any site that could become large scale. Maybe I'm just bitter because I've been hacking around in a huge PHP app trying to customize it for my company. Ugh. One thing I'd suggest is to expand the Second Life profile section on your site. I was disappointed to see that my options were just as limited as in my online profile. Aside from sharing 1L info (which I'm not sure a lot of people care to do), what's the appeal of your site? Here's a forum post with a lot of great ideas about improving profiles: /20/d7/92398/1.htmlI especially like the idea of an expanded skills/interests/resume section. Oh, I'd also display the SL/1L profiles on the same page, integrated, as well as giving people the option to display either photo as the default. I've been looking at all the suggestions that were posted in this thread and I'm obviously going to incorporate some. As you suggested, I really would like to expand the skills/interests section of SL. The only is --- WHAT other Skills/Interests should I add. Do you or anybody else have any suggestions on this? BTW - as requested by some, I changed some colors to make sure that the site is much easier to read.

More features...
06-02-2006 21:33
I would like to thank everyone that has been sending me information on new features for SLProfiles.com. I'll try to add as many as I can this weekend so please be patient. People have been telling me to add more SL interest and skills besides those available in SL. Any suggestion on which skills and interests to add? Thanks! Johan

I'm going to work on a few updates to the Blogging site of SLProfiles since people seem to like that feature indeed. I've added a few new features to the site today and I'm working on another feature that has been requested by several members. More about this tomorrow. The new features I've added today are the "You've got Mail" feature and you can now also add other favorite sites to your profile. Stay tuned for more!

Unlimited SL Skills / Interests + Tagging
06-11-2006 20:18
In Second Life you can only have a limited amount of Skills and Interests in your profile. As requested, you can now add an unlimited amount of skills and interests to your SLProfiles.com account. You can add new skills/interests, or you can simply click on the [...] button to see a list of all skills and interests added by other members. To update your SL Skills or SL Interests, click on the "2nd Life" link in the green menu bar. When you click on any of the Second Life Skill or Interest tags in a profile, we will now automatically show a list of all members with the same tag. I hope you'll enjoy this new feature! Blogging seems to be pretty popular on our site these days so we've added a few new features to our blogging system. SL Stats is starting to take off as well - we've got nearly 29000 minutes of playtime recorded - not bad huh? More features will be announced soon!

I just did the math and I account for nearly 10% of the playtime recorded. I've only been using SL Stats since Friday!

sl.me.com admin =o)

Nothing wrong with abit of compatition. However i would like to correct the fact that it was stated that slme has nothing to do with sl. it is ALL based on second life we just give our members the option to use or not use certain features.
Yes we are sponcered by Me.com but we are not connected to them and they are not connected to us. we both run our sites seperately.
I would also like to say that yo's site and our site are nothing at all alike both offer different features all together.
SL.me offers voice chat, video chat normal text chat in a site based chatroom and offers the chance for those who choose to use them to do so.SL.me is a site which offers thise who wish to get to know the person behind the avitar the chance to do so.
As i said this should be some friendly compatition.
We also have sl ads which go to the persons biz. location if they so choose to use that feature. with much more in the works.
It seems that Sl.me is more high tech then the other mentioned site. Do not get me wrong that does not in anyway make it less of a SL user friendly tool just means that the two are on different levels.
Much luck to you Yo Glad to see our idea has inspired others ]

I must say, I never heard about Sl.me until I was about 70% done with the site and was a bit dissapointed at first that we weren't going to be the first with this idea. Just like sl.me, SLProfiles.com is based on myspace.com (I still can't believe that they get more hits than google!). A little later I found Snapzilla (great site BTW) and then I started looking around and realized that there are tons of really good second life sites out there. And yes, I totally agree, nothing wrong with some good competition. Heck -- it would be boring without it. I always assumed that SL.me was the same as me.com but I'm glad we've cleared that one up. - great site BTW. I must say, I really enjoyed building SLProfiles.com from scratch and it feels good to see how it's evolving thanks to it's members! We've tried to add things to our site that you don't see in regular profile sites, like SL Stats, Second Life Puzzle E-Cards, SL Custom Voting Ballots, SL Popular Places, allowing to send in game postcards with update/delete capabilities of the text and pictures without even being a member, and many many more to come. I would like to use this opportunity to thank all those who have become a member over the past 30 days and for those who haven't, feel free to join! Thanks a lot for all the great support, I've received tons of emails with tips and suggestions. To be honest, SLProfiles.com is a members site and it's up to it's members to make a site great so feel free to keep sending me suggestions. As you've probably already noticed, EVERY week new features have been added to our site, and another new feature will be released VERY soon! Lol - do we ever stop? Heck - we just got started! See you on SLProfiles.com! Johan.

Jobs
07-04-2006 09:00
We're looking for people wanted to post jobs on our site so we can get the ball rolling on this new feature. You can even use it to post camping jobs on it --- a job is a job right? We only show jobs updated within the last 30 days so if you plan on posting a camping job, make sure you keep coming back to update your job listing.
Yuck - another BBQ I have to go to today - I hate them cause I gotta cook and I don't like it one bit! Happy 4th of July!

Yo I noticed that there are only 3 job listings on your site, what a shame. This really looked like a very nice feature to me. Does anybody have an idea why not more people are listing jobs on www.slprofiles.com? How long has this feature been up? Just wondering!

Jobs have been up for 2 weeks or so I believe. It's true only 3 jobs are available right now but I'm sure - very sure - that will change in time. It sometimes takes a little while for things to catch on - lol - and I'm speaking from experience as I run about 15 sites after hours. Anyway - if anybody has some great suggestions on how to get the jobs section of our site really launched, please let me know! BTW - has any of you check out my latest feature yet? SL Pager Wristbands? Make sure to do so at www.slprofiles.comYo

What's up at SLProfiles.com
07-31-2006 20:48
Glad to see that we finally have some jobs listed on our site . I'll add some more features to this in the near future. Also, our we're over 600 members right now which is not bad for being up 2 months. I do wish more people would actually list some games in our SL Places section with a nice description because 90% of what is out there in our SL Places is advertising for Second Life Business. Lol - I'll probably end up posting a job on my own site OR end up doing it myself when I have some time (???) So when is the next update to our site? Lol --- I'm actually working on something big but I'm really worried that I won't be able to pull it off due to the workload of the project. What is it? IF and only IF everything goes right, I hope to announce this within the next two weeks. It's something I've been working on for about 8 months and the next two weeks will be crucial for this project. Anyway - don't you love it that people post something without saying a word! Stay tuned! Yo

I'm at both slprofiles.com and sl.me.com. It seems you can do more at sl.me.com but check them both out, they're excellent.
