The last few months I've been working really hard on a new site for Second Life players and I believe it's ready to be announced so here we go!!!! At SLProfiles.com, Second Life players can create their own free profile and talk about their first and of course their second life. They can share their interests, add friends to their profile, customize the look and modify privacy settings of their profile, add pictures, leave comments on pictures and profiles, send/receive private messages, block other members, add an unlimited amount of songs to their profile (jukebox feature will play different songs at random), add favorite second life places to their account and even blog about Second Life. Other members can rate these Second Life places, which will help new players to find lots of nice things to do in Second Life. Members are also allowed to create their own voting ballots (with their own questions and answers) on Second Life related subjects and every member is allowed to vote once on each subject. To make it very easy for people to add their Second Life pictures to their profile, they simply need to email them to postcards@slprofiles.com and within minutes, the pictures and information of their postcard will be added to their profile! Ohh yeah - and if that isn't enough to start off a new site -- more will be announced soon! Let me know what you think! Johan - Admin of www.SLProfiles.com

Input needed On Second Life Places
05-27-2006 21:07
Ok - on my SLProfiles.com site, people can add their favorite Second Life places to our site. At this moment I have the following categories: Games, Buildings, Gathering Places, Stores, and Other. I'm wondering if I'll need more categories. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Johan.

Pretty cool. As I have been a failure on myspace, maybe I can have more friends in SL. If you see me on slprofile, hit me up Can we call Second Life "Characters", "Avatars"? Avatar is so much better.

SLProfiles.com v.s. SL.me.com?
05-28-2006 09:42
Hhhmmm...great idea and all, but isnt this site just the same as SLme.com? Of course I could be wrong, but it sure looks the same. And seems to function in the same manner. Wondering if anyone else thinks the same?

So? Never heard of competition. Myspace isn't the only one either.

Sl Me?
05-28-2006 11:14
SL me has almost nothing to do with Second Life --- all they did was add second life picture to their current me site. SLProfiles.com on the other hand has everything to do with Second Life. You can for instance add your favorite second life places to your profile, we talk about your first life and your second life, we have a feature build in that allows you to automatically add your second life postcards to your account, you can add second life coordinates in every second life picture you add, ... and stay tuned for many new second life only features that will be added in the near future...

Good luck with the new site ) It is nice to see another developer who uses ASP (well actually I use ASP.NET, but I was an ASP programmer for a long time) in a sea of PHP people.

I'm not a big PHP fan --- especially not after my site got hacked due to a bug in PHP! Love ASP and ASP.NET as well

This looks really great! I enjoy seeing these things that allow us to elaborate on our Second lives in more detail. This will be a great addition to the pool of second life sites. Thanks!

SLProfiles - Fair Voting in Second Life
05-30-2006 10:36
One of the features I've build in www.SLProfiles.com is Voting. Unlike here where you can only collect votes, you can actually also vote against a proposal and of course leave your own comments. Every member can of course only vote once on each proposal to keep things fair. I believe it doesn't make any sense to just collect votes for a certain subject. Doesn't it make way more sense to allow people to vote against a certain proposal as well? Anyway --- I've created the first voting question which is "Should you be able to hide in Second Life? (no mapping, not visible in friends list)" which will hopefully get the ball rolling. All members at www.slprofiles.com are allowed to create their own voting ballots. In my case there were 3 possible answers: Yes, No, and Maybe BUT depending on who created the ballot, different answers can be used. All -- please let me know what you think about this feature and how you believe I could make it even better... Have fun! Johan.

I signed up. Thanks, good looking site and I think ASP.NET is a much better development platform for any site that could become large scale. Maybe I'm just bitter because I've been hacking around in a huge PHP app trying to customize it for my company. Ugh. One thing I'd suggest is to expand the Second Life profile section on your site. I was disappointed to see that my options were just as limited as in my online profile. Aside from sharing 1L info (which I'm not sure a lot of people care to do), what's the appeal of your site? Here's a forum post with a lot of great ideas about improving profiles: /20/d7/92398/1.htmlI especially like the idea of an expanded skills/interests/resume section. Oh, I'd also display the SL/1L profiles on the same page, integrated, as well as giving people the option to display either photo as the default.

Ok - I've improved the rating of picture for 2nd life (and also 1st life) pictures. Average will be shown AFTER you rate a picture + you automatically go to the next picture. Check it out at www.slprofiles.comYou'll notice I've added rating of picture also to the main page of our site What did you think about the second life random puzzles and the puzzle postcards? Johan

Thanks for the input Adri --- I'll be looking at your suggested thread as there seems to be some very valuable information in it. What's the appeal of my site? Easy intregration of second life pictures (simply send those as a postcard to postcards@slprofiles.com), second life voting, second life favorite places with ranking, second life picture ranking and so on. INPUT INPUT INPUT (did I say that here) is VERY important at this time. You have to understand that I created this site all by myself without any input until now so that's why I'm ready to hear from all of you on what is needed to make this site from good to great. The SL Puzzle Postcards seem to amuse some people so that's a start right? Anyway --- thanks again for your input and I'll keep you posted on any improvements I make AND please keep giving me more input and ideas. Thanks! Johan.

The only complaint that I have about the site is that it's difficult to navigate, mainly because the text is too hard to see.
Other than that, I'm enjoying being a member. Good job, Yo.

The light green text on the white background is hard to read, and so is the white text on the blue background.

Suggestions and Changes
06-01-2006 10:18
I'll ask some artists to look at the colors on my site, just to see what they think I should do. Thanks for the suggestion! Last night I just added a feature so you can see how many times a picture has been viewed as that was one of the requests I've received. I'll also be adding more features to the 2nd Life profile tab as requested by some users. If anyone has more suggestions, please let me know. The home page will also soon change after you logged in (also a member request) since a lot of that information is irrelevant once you are a member.

Non Members can Add/Update and Delete 2nd Life Pics!
06-01-2006 23:33
NEW --- Not only SLProfiles members BUT also NON members can submit their in game postcards to postcards@slprofiles.com. These postcards will be shown within 5 minutes on our site.
If you're a member (free of course) of SLProfiles, your 2nd Life picture will automatically be added to your account IF your second life email is the same as the email address you used to sign up as a member. If your email address is different, NOW you have the option to move these submitted pictures to your account.
As a NON-MEMBER, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to delete your pictures and update the information (comments, name, ...).
You can also rank these NON-MEMBER pictures just as you did with member pictures.
More later... Yo
