That shiny thing is the glint in your eyes when you realize how useful the SLFO application is

<eyes glitter in greed>
Er. WHat language would that be written in? Perhaps C#? No way I could see how you got past the strangness that is the SL web login and cookies, aye? Money? What money? I want technical solutions! ![]() |

It's written in C++.
There's no cookies or login information involved in connecting to the SL web-page, that's why you have to login externally with your browser once before using the program. The SL web-site then keeps you logged in until you explicitly log out (or it crashes). _____________________

I just wish I could figure out what I'm missing on getting the right cookies. <tsk> |

Are you using the iframe version?
http://secondlife.com/community/friends-iframe.php That's the one the mac dashboard widget uses. Might not be the cleanest for your purposes, but the html should be pretty easy to parse by <td> fields. |

Wow, that's a great deal easier to parse ;0

Here's a little something for you that wants to check if your friends come online and doesn't want to open your browser and surf to the SL page everytime. SLFO (SecondLife Friends Online) is a small Windows application that show the status of the people in your friend list in a way somewhat similar to MSN. Various colors and bold text are used to signify certain states. As a picture says more than a thousand words, and I'm definitely not going to type all that, here's a part of a screenshot with the SLFO window open. ![]() Click on the pic to go to the SLFO page, or click on the link here: http://www.frozencity.com/slfo Comments welcome. Use IM or post here. /Raph PS SLFO is a hack that parses the HTML in the SL Friends Online web-page. Unfortunately, Linden does not present the Friends Online list (or any other SL information) in an easy to parse format with no frills. SLFO is therefore sensitive to any change Linden may make to the page. I will try to keep up and update SLFO, should this happen. So, should any Linden read this, a clean and simple Friends Online list would be much appreciated. DS *panhandles* ![]() Seriusly i didn't think SL had that much money in the pool. *cough* photoshop is one heck of a tool. ![]() _____________________

Then I was like, wow Cornelius Linden has a lot of the same friends I do! D'oh! |

Updated the program to 1.2.0.5 as I found a small bug where the first name in the list wouldn't get properly shown in bold.
The iframe list is a lot easier to parse, but it doesn't seem to be updated very often. For me, it now shows friends that logged off more than 10 minutes ago. _____________________

Hmmm, it seems that it was actually the regular SL page that was incorrectly missing a few friends that were actually online.
I'll change the program to parse the iframe version instead, much safer. _____________________

So, done, version 1.3.0.0 now uses the iframe version of the Friends Online page, which is much easier to handle.
Thanks to Cornelius for the hint about this page. _____________________

I would use your little aplication, but I hav no friends and it would make me sad. _____________________

bug report for you...
Just now (and i've noticed this several times...) My SLFO is showing Friends Online: 0 followed by a list of 5 names. The names match what the website is reporting, again 5 of them there, so it looks like there is a minor mathematical but with your app counting them O.o Great program, though - I love it! Edit : close and restart it and all is well again - but it will be confused again within a couple of hours |

SL Friends Monitor
07-15-2006 18:55
That's actually funny but I've had a Friends Monitor program written for about 6 months just never took the time to package it up. Lol - it was even created before I could ever play Second Life since Second Life wouldn't run on my laptop but I wrote it for my wife because she wanted to know who's online before she would actually play Second Life. Anyway - with the grid being down, I just released it on www.slprofiles.com. It basically just records who's online (just like the SL Friends app you guys are talking about) and how much time everybody is spending + it also keeps a history of your friends so you can see how much they've actually been online. It's because of this program that I came up with the idea to create SL Stats (which records the time YOU'RE spending on Second Life).
