ever heard of something funny called "notification" on why the f' I can't log in again and my friends list is hosed?
checked your worthless blog, nothing shows up, just the usual promises and half truths never carried out. /status just has the usual "will be up shortly" notice, and nothing came in world in the form of "hey, here's the issues"
that would make sense, and this post will end up deleted because it tells the truth and doesn't look good for potential investors, or whatever it is this week.
horray for keeping paying residents in the know!

I just managed to log, after freezing upon login. The status page said 'offline for maintenance' earlier - but I agree, where is the notification?

"logins are restricted to employees only" idiots.... thanks LL for your "improved" notification. still getting the same error.
this is getting old quickly. i'd post a comment on the prescreened non community friendly blog, but there is no thread to post in about this!

"There were reports of grey-goo type objects in-world"
uhh huh. how come I never see these, and I visit popular areas, go around the main land alot, etc? seems like a good old LL induced lie. i'm calling bs on this one, unless pictures are posted from a linden employee, not a resident. residents post alot of some of the attacks, but LL never does, just "a grid wide attack that we don't have a way of stopping and cleaning quickly took us 10 hours, but we are open now!" in the blog all the time. so lets see a linden post photos of the attack and a much better description then "grid attack" "grid wide attack" "grey goo objects" (aka the asset server never rezzing up stuff is what it sounds like to me) etc. excuses excuses.

Yeah. I'm really sure they're just lying about it. That makes sense. There are so many reasons they'd just make that up.

What Ordinal said.
There is quite legitimate cause to complain about the lack of griefing tools and systems in SL, but why LL would make up stuff about an attack is beyond me.

I was oblivious to this until just now. I was in the Agriopilis (sp?) sim, and started being bombarded with objects offers from Ravenglass Rentals. All had random numerical names like 46134234.23423 and so forth. Reported it immediately to live help and the sim was shutdown (and myself logged off) within seconds.

It's nothing to do with Ravenglass Rentals. It merely started out as an innocent item, originally created by someone with full perms.
When you modify something, it retains its owners name - so if you created a blue plywood box, full perms, and I modified it by turning it into a green sphere with a malicious script inside it, although I was the owner and guilty party, it would still show you as the creator of the item causing the problems - even though you were completely innocent.

I assumed others did too...and was just pointing it out because it makes it pretty obvious that this is another grid attack (which somebody seems to doubt above).

My theory

It's my bag of laundry causing the grid attacks. It's the bag's way of saying "do me".

As a new player, I have experienced in my past 2 weeks nearly DAILY issues with the Second Life Game. Intense lag that shuts down sims, Graphical glitches where textures are missing in one sim but reappear fine when going to another sim, grid being closed countless times to logins cept for lindes.
Isnt this game like 2 or 3 years old? I cannot belive anyone would stick around that long going through this daily trouble.
Again at this typing, This is the second time today i have had to wait to log in when they earlier closed the logins.
Im not a premium account and I can guarantee I never will be.
I though SOE was a horribly development team.. You guys beat them hands down.
Oh well.. back to the sims online.

gray goo is the least of worries. though what is really bizzare, when I was cleaning up my store after 500 prims hit it, the prims said creator ryan linden... I have never seen anything like that before. can scipts mimick and object creator? or was it originally made by him then modified.. Im guessing the latter.
but yes, gray goo, party balls, small explosions, party hats, and massive amount of the nastiest pornography that cant be reported because you cant get the pwners name.
they just now told us how to turn off particles.. yes no more looking at this stomach wrenching mess

Maybe you don't see them because you don't turn on your highlight transparencies option? Trust me as someone who is about 3 parcels over from where the action looked like it originated (Ravenglass) it is real.

While I agree it's aggrivating to find you can't log in, the entire grid is experiencing a major attack atm. Nukes are clustered all over Fizzdrake castle and some terribly disgusting particle generators have spawned all over Dragon Falls and other sim areas.
They had to shut down log-ins to try and fix this.
Also, People, this is NOT a game. Second Life is more an interactive environment. You can game inside SL but it itself is NOT a game. Yes the fact that it has been around so long should mean less issues like this. If they don't figure out how to cut down on incidences or come up with better punishment options for the perpetrators.....they will lose the people they want to keep most, happy paying customers who want to enjoy the environment in a friendly fashion. That's very sad because SL can be a very fun place to be. But, not when it's like this all the time.
and btw, it is possible to see who made the particles IF you can find the generator.... I found several and posted a bug report....it says click here then click on the item. Voila! the owners name magically appears!

Perhaps you should look up 'grey goo' in the SL Wiki like one of the Linden reports suggests? Then you'll discover that its just a word for rapidly proliferating outputs of a computational process process. In the present instance, it was a flood of blue-window 'object posted' messages in the top right of the screen. DSo you didnt see it? Lukcy lad. Thousands of others did. Don't moan! Look it up! be happy! Anima Graff

Maybe it's like the pool check at the public pool? Ok, ALL residents OUT, Linden SWIM! I seriously doubt "grid attacks" are LL induced, or that it's just a huge lie. In fact, I just dont believe that at ALL. Just because you were fortunate, and the grid was taken offline by LL before you were "attacked" means it never happened? Heh...sorry but I've been hit by the "self-replicating objects of DOOM" and trust me, it isnt pretty. There is one thing I do know as a fact and I will say this until it gets old for even me to hear it: In the whole freakin year + I've been in SL I had witnessed maybe 3 "possible grid attacks" - where the whole grid was taken down by LL (we were completely logged out, NO one was allowed to stay online as it is now) the person was taken care of and nothing more was said about it. In the last month - there have been more grid attacks than I can count, LL cannot get the grid offline fast enough in my opinion, with this type of attack. Before, most of us wouldnt even know what was causing the problem, or what the object was called. Now, these objects are causing mass chaos all over the grid. In prior attacks, we would be notified, the grid be closed, problem taken care of, and most if not all of us would never had see the problem, or worry about it again. NOW....we know exactly what objects are what, and before you know it, the objects are all over the place. So, did a few select people just get uber script savvy over the past month, and figure out this annoying, yet successful way of attacking the grid? NO of course not...these types of attacks are the same as before; just as annoying, just as destructive - but one thing is different...now anyone can do anything. 'Why Xaria can you say that?' I can because - anyone can make as many accounts as they wish, no credit info to track, no IP's can be tracked. So I guess that pretty much says it all. There needs to be an end to free accounts. Oh and you want to see a picture - well here is a picture from a year + long resident, myself, of the last grid attack, while I was on the PREVIEW grid. And if you will check, some Lindens and Live Help workers havent been in game even as long as I have. You want proof? Well not that I wish this ever have to happen to, but apparently you will have to be "attacked" with your own pixel eyes. Trust me, no one is more frustrated with the attacks more than I. I agree to the call for an end to unregulated accounts. I cant imagine how much money LL loses shuting down the grid every day like this. And for what unregisterd accounts dont bring in any money. If not then people should start making everyplace not accesible to these accounts. But that wont do anything to stop the malicios scripters

I was annoyed at first but now Im down right mad. I pay for this program and I cant use it. I think LL should keep track of hours when the grid is down and add them to my monthly account . Every full day I cant logg on is a day LL owes me. I shouldnt be paying for down time when its there own damn fault for opening regestration to ever jane and john with a connection.

What you see were not objects that were being delivered to me, they are particles from a generator that has planted itself and self replicated in a mall near Fizzdrake Castle. So, muting or discarding objects wouldnt have stopped that mess. I did mute and discard any objects that were sent to me. After a while it muted all the associated names so I didnt get any more spam but.....still it's a pain for the whole grid to get skrewed for about 24 hours.
