In case someone else needs to make theater seating, I went ahead and made a seperate tool for it. It's called THX1 and is available at Ohno (44, 113). It's just a specialized version of the ring tool, really. Free to use, copy from, give away or resell as usual.

Thanks again for these marvalous tools/toys, Cadroe.

The ringmaker in particular is a helpful device for determining proportions for large interlocking shapes. Nice work!

I'm glad it's useful, Olympia :) BTW, are there particular kinds of interlocking shapes you're making? Maybe it would be an interesting problem to work on automating. Not promising anything, but curious.

Actually it's mostly simple stuff that the your ring maker makes easy- like determining the proportions of a wedge shape so it can be duplicated radially into a hexagon or octagon (or fill-in-the-blankagon) without overlapping. No more trial and error, thanks to you :)

This is the kind of stuff I love about SL! Awsome tool, and open source, even!

Hm... maybe I could modify ShapeMaker to make that giant snail shell I've been talking about... ;)

Just a note to let anyone interested know that I made a modified version of the ShapeMaker tool which arranges the ring blocks in a wave pattern (in the vertical dimension). It's a new object named RingWave. It's not much of a change, but it's kind of fun to play with. You can adjust the amplitude and frequency. Here's a pic to show what it does. Available around about Ohno(68, 100) for free (well $1 so I can keep track).

Very cool! Keep us up to date on this. :D

Is it prim effiecient? I.e. does it calculate the least ammount of prims needed to make the shape?

No, it just does what it's told really. It rezzes the number of sections (i.e. wedges) that you specify and then you can adjust the radius, width, thickness, amplitude, etc.

y = aSin(bx) is indeed simple, JG :)

Hey, I just wanted to ask people for a favor. If you make something you think is kind of interesting with ShapeMaker, could you please drop me a note letting me know about it? A snapshot would be even more awesome. I don't think anyone's obliged to, but if you feel like doing it I would appreciate it.

I just like seeing what people do with the tool. Malachi let me know about the giant torus on Paris island, which I thought was very cool. I don't have the land for a torus that big, so I have to live vicariously! I just came across a nice dome in Avalon wich appears to be a theater of sorts, and I enjoyed that. I know people are using it for various things because I periodically get pos rates and even questions about pricing for things I didn't build. Unfortunately people don't usually say what or more importantly where these things are. And just recently I received the cryptic IM "YOU DID NOT BUILD THE POWER DOME" - which is true, I have no idea what the POWER DOME is, and SAID SO.

So anyway, that's the favor I'm asking. If you make something interesting with the tool, would you mind letting me know about it? I don't sell the tool, so I'm not looking for promotional material or anything.

How clean are the ...? Oh, joins.

Cadroe, I picked these up months ago and they got mislaid in my inventory. Thanks for the reminder :)
