Payment Podium is at the Shelter every Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday at 7pm (Hey, its tonight!). Its similar to Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, but with a few twists to it. We seem to get a decent turnout every time - anywhere from 20-40 people. The questions get *hard*... and the audience can help all they want. You can even google if you're quick about it. I'd love to do this event during the daytime at a more UK- friendly time as well.... I'm working on that Travis

^ I was at a game of Payment Podium recently and it was fun and the crowd was friendly. Travis clearly is quite dilligent about making theshelter experience an enjoyable one for peeps who drop by. *clapclapclap* From: Kasandra Morgan In time the Tringo crazy will fade. Thats the coolest part about this game. If you don't like something...wait. I agree with Kasandra's approach to long-term patience. Sort of the "And this too, shall come to pass" shiznit that RZA of Wu-Tang could easily talk about. Rur rur. Really though, right now, I'm really enjoying gridhopping and the occasional Tringo game, and clearly there's a demand for it because the boards are literally stacked. Kermitt must be so proud and it's quite a social game, with people coming together and chatting it up with jokes as the games go on (unless it's Speed Tringo which makes for a narrower window of opportunity ). Bel Muse pointed this out to me, so I thank u, you tawdry vixen and fellow Bavarian hamburgler! Robble robble. Tringo has inspired additional creativity in SL by way of some games that are very similar, and others that are quite conceptually different but still aim to do one thing that's great about SL: BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER.

Slingo is a game that has been online for longer than SL has been in existance. SL-ingo is the same game, brought here. Tringo was an original, by Kermit.
I wish there were more Bingo games. I don't understand Tringo. And I owe my entire financial existance on the game purely to winning things.

From: Charlotte Gillespie Some of you might remember my thread a few weeks ago bemoaning the general dearth of events other than Tringo. Well, in case you hadn't noticed, it's getting worse - a lot worse. Between 12pm and 4pm SL time, there are currently 21 events scheduled. Out of those, 16 are Tringo or "Slingo", which I assume to be a Tringo ripoff. One of the events, scheduled at 12pm, simply reads "tingo @ south i" with the description "come win this money"! Lack of imagination is starting to kill SL. If you're against this, the group Tringo Protest League is open for joining. We're going to meet regularly to bemoan the lack of events other than Tringo, and try to develop our own. The fact that someone in SL created a game so popular that it has basicly taken over the grid, AND got liscened by an out-of-world company for production, shows that SL has a lack of imagination? Buh? That said, your free to come up with your own game. At Spittoonie Island we're constantly trying to come up with new ways to amuse people.

<yawn> One day, I'd quite like to read something other than *yawn* in these forums. I really, really don't get why people feel the need to post every time they inhale. *sneeze*

If I'm showing someone from out-of-world what there is to do in SL, it's one of the first places I take them. More of this sort of thing is what's needed, and less of the "Oh, Tringo's making money for people - let's jump in the money pot!"

How does Tringo make people money? It cost 15k to buy and the host usually puts money in every pot. Since people aren't getting stacks of money from dwell anymore, where is this magic profit people are getting from Tringo coming from?

It must be a money-maker, or people wouldn't be holding games 24 hours a day and actually paying people to host for them!

Its all About the Win!!!!
03-23-2005 06:58
Some of playing Tringo is about the money pots - but I would bet my Tringo board that it is more about the competition. I travel the Tringo circuits, and there are some players out there that are good, damn good. They are the Tringo Stars---and I must beat them - I want the 285 score or better!!!! I have seen pots of only $100 or less and yet people will stay to play. Why? They want to win - they want to be #1. The money pot is an incentive, but if you watch it closely, for the true Tringo enthusiasts - its all about the win. PS. YOu know who you are. . . I will hunt you down and beat you!!! Muwaaaaaaaaa

Prepare for my new game Primgo! Where different shaped temp on rez prims are spawned and set 'anyone can move' - its a race between competitors to grab the prims you need to finish your Primgo card! Of course, any GOOD Primgo player doesnt bother with the prims from the pot at all, and merely steals the prims from their opponents cards instead. Oh, and of course, any random flyby griefer can steal the pieces too. All adds to the fun!
*Disclaimer: Primgo does not exist, nor is it likely to cuz I'm lazy as shit. Feel free to use the idea. I ask only that you pay me L$1 royalties for every prim rezzed in any game played anywhere on the grid.

Well Clair and I used to run a little game called Tringo at Tringo Park, but after coming to the conclusion that Kermitt had oversold the boards. 20 boards would of been plenty based on the size of sl, but he sould at least double that figure.
The event boards have become a joke as have the fights between the hosts to get ppl to their games. We ran daily games and had packed houses in the begining. . If we had known so many boards would of been sold we never would of bought one.
It was a fantastic idea. We never broke even. My board is currently for sale. As far as I know the boards are still being sold iw.

Ever think they are doing it because they are enjoying it? For some people its all about money (me), but some people are just here to have fun. How can you say people are just hosting Tringo all day long to make money when every thing points to them losing money. Saying, it must be making them money because they are doing it is just illogical.

It is a fun game and a great little diversion. My only problem is that it is too social - each time there seems to be a 10 minute gap between games filled with chatter. I just want the next game to start already! Heck, tringo is being held up as an awesome example of the potential of SL as a development platform. To the original poster and other whiners who want to control the SL experience: Don't like clubs/malls? Don't go. Don't like av sex? Don't buy naughty bits. Don't like bingo/tringo/game of the moment? Don't play. SL is for everyone, not just your narrow interpretation of what we should all be doing. Find what you like and leave the rest of us the hell alone.
