Do NOT get me started on lima beans. That's a rant for another thread...

Now, now Teeny. We already had a Lima bean thread. And If I recall we decided lima beans were the food of the gods.

Ewwwww... food of the gods if you're a god that enjoys eating little bags full of wet sand. Blech!

I...umm...well...I am a vegetarian.

Yes, I said it.

I eat tomatos, and even lima beans. I am ashamed of it, and to be honest, this is the first time I have come out and admitted to my disgrace, but I just can't keep living a lie any more. I eat tomatos in soups, in salads, with french fries, and especially on pasta.

And...I especially like sun-dried tomatos.

we are not discussing the importance of lima beans or liver here, folks. it's about the evil that is the tomato.

i am personally against sun-dried tomatoes and, tava, you have broken my heart by even mentioning an ALLEGIANCE to them. i'm broken. i'm shattered.

this indifference to tomatoes is almost enough to make me leave this world. i can't believe you heathens support that pulpy mess of bloated sour mush.

Tomatos run the media.

They run the CIA too.

They want to do kill our men, dishonor our women, indoctrinate our children, and bother our pets.

It's no coincidence that cherry tomatos explode in your mouth... they're practicing their technique.

p.s. and if it weren't for all those livers this country would be great again. They should go back to the cows were they belong.

EXACTLY, Olympia!

Tomatoheads and liverlusters are what's wrong with the food market today. No wonder our youth's nutrition is on a steadyfast decline. Shame on tomato-pushers!!!! Shame, shame! Bad, BAAAAD!

I've also seen a recipie for a desert cake made with canned vegetables. Some decades old offering from a canned vegetable company. Why it didn't catch on we'll never know:p

OMG! How can anyone think tomatoes and chocolate go together?! That's blasphemy!! And I'm serious this time too. :p

The only vegetables chocolate should be paired with are peanuts. Tomato lovers are really stretching it on this one. Honestly, tomato soup, chocolate cake ... *cringe*

Well..of course, generalizing all tomatoes together is wrong!

Cherry tomatoes = tasty summer treat right off the vine or from the fridge.

Pear tomatoes = ditto

Roma tomatoes = sandwich and burger enhancers extrodinaire!

Ketchup = a delight on nearly every other food item, unlike the hateful and barbaric Catsup

Tomatoe Sauce = Umm..who doesn't like spaghetti or pizza??

So, if you are going to talk about tomatioes and their byproducts, please don't generalize.

Ewww, wrong ... that's sooooo wrong! lol

David,

I wasn't generalizing ALL tomatoes. If you referred to my previous posts, you'll see i have no objections whatsoever to tomatoes and avocadoes coming together ...

I DO recognise the appeal of tomatoes in relation to pizza and spaghetti. But I have since developed a taste for Pesto sauce and a "vegetarian" pizza (tomato sauce is substituted with cream cheese and chives). So even that arguement is a little weak for me. :p

Tomatoes can increase the probability of initiation of mating in humans.

Tomatoes contain trace amounts of Belladonna alkaloids (Atropine) an ancient poison / drug.

Egyptian women used belladonna alkaloids to dilate their eyes to make them appear more attractive (dilated eyes tends to mean you are in an excited state / you like what you are looking at).

So If you eat maybe 80 tomatoes, and go to a bar your probability of getting lucky would be increased slightly, providing the prospective mate did not mind you being deathly sick to your stomach from eating so much, and smelling of tomatoes.

I do think tomatoes are kind of nasty though.

I thought they were a vegetable?

They are related to the Belladonna plant and were once avoided in the old world for that reason. After some time, the Romans referred to them as the *Love Apple* - perhaps this is related to the sexual stimulant idea?

I have been told are technically a fruit since the seeds are on the inside, and although I had a Horticulture class once I can't give a definitive answer on that.

Regardless, I GROW 'EM & I LOVE 'EM!

My favorite way is straight from the garden, sliced thickly, with some salt....YUM!

HEY! Another person who likes sugared tomatoes!

Everybody I've met looks at me like I'm totally insane when I mention packing tomatoes in sugar and chilling for a bit in the fridge before scarfing. *snf*

Tomatoes with sugar? Well, that's what we call tomato jam around here and it is teh shiznit!
Just dump equal parts of tomato and sugar into a pot, puree the whole shebang, slowly boil it for a few hours to get some of the water out, and dump it into bowls...
