Recent events -- both in general and some things that have happened to me -- make me ask a question similar to another I've asked in the past -- Just what is an SL celebrity? And why would someone want to be one? Is there anything good that comes of it? I'm not even sure I know what an RL celebrity is -- why are there ones in SL? (And no, I'm not trolling. But I welcome both wit and truth.) I'm on the z-list, in real and in second life. I get invited if everyone on lists A-Y are busy. I get to go to some interesting parties ![]() _____________________

I'm on the z-list, in real and in second life. I get invited if everyone on lists A-Y are busy. I get to go to some interesting parties ![]() Exactly -- I think that the 'celebrities' are, in large part, the "in crowd" of sorts. I believe it absolutely depends on personality type. You have people like Chance Small and Anshe Chung that everyone 'knows of' through er, 'word of mouth'... And then obviously folks like Francis (who you don't even have to mention her SL surname.) That - is celebrity. When you have a not too uncommon first name, such as Francis, which can stand on its own. (You don't have to say Francis Chung.) That can be done for, "Anshe", "Francis", "Ulrika", "Alby", "Christiano", "Hank", "Jauani", "Huns", "Kex", "Maxx", "Cubey", "Bhodi" --- even "James". But I guess it depends on which circles you run in, as to which of these names you would know. But I'd guarantee that some are universal. And, if you're scanning these forums for your name, I could go on for an hour and continue like that. I think it's a strange phenomenon. But every group seems to form its own celebrities of sorts, no matter what the context of the group is. I'm sure there are 'celebrities' in, for example, the tightly-knit arc-welding occupational circles. As in, "Wow. Bob Jackson? He can weld like a motherf'er!" "Lionel McEnroe? Wow, he's the salted-pretzel-vending GOD!" To other people, we'd have no idea who these people are. With some folks, "SL Celebrity" has even changed how I interact with them. For example, Kex is a celebrity now. So now, when talking to her, it's kind of like, "Wow, I'm talking to THE Kex Godel" -- same goes with Francis of course. There was a time when I could probably talk to her as a "peer", but now that she has "celebrity status", I certainly censor and filter my words a bit around her. ![]() Certain people are 'immortalized' in SL... People start to form parasocial relationships - they may say "Oh, that looks like one of Francis's works" - and speak about the 'celebrity' as if they know who they are, even though they've never met them. I dunno. If SL stays around for a few more years I think this effect will be magnified. I've been on online communities where there are these 'big names', when they show up, everyone wows. I'd say that if you have been mentioned at least twice in this thread so far, by two separate people, you're pretty much on your way to being a household name in SL. ![]() |

I can't really say what equals a celeb in SL lol. I've had people tell me they were or are starstruck when meeting me and it kind of catches me off guard every time lol. I just don't see myself that way. I'm here along for the ride just like everyone else .Awestruck? People just tell me I look older and fatter in the (virtual) flesh. _____________________

Ok, ok. Who exactly is the "Bono" of SL? That's a really good question, Michi. Do they have to have the prerequisite eyewear and charitable causes too? ![]() _____________________

Michi,
<<I'd say that if you have been mentioned at least twice in this thread so far, by two separate people, you're pretty much on your way to being a household name in SL.>> Ah, but the real celebrities, the creme de la creme, the aristocracy of celebrity, the top of the pile, the celebrity's celebrities, are those like me, whose name is so well-known that nobody even needs to mention them here. *cough* ![]() _____________________

As for the curved prims that the little people never get to see...look up Lolita and you will see a whole lot no one should ever have to see. |

I have only been in game about 3 weeks..so Im still getting familar with people. But thanks to those that yell my name in game and say "Hey there's the famous Blake Rockwell" from the forums..not sure why..and unfortunately a couple do not speak to me anymore because of the drama that is sometimes created on twisted and spun topics. Most that do know me in game know my heart. Actually I think for most of us that converse here on the forums..we are more like family though the spectators may view all of us as Celebs.
The first friend I had on the forums was Lecktor Hannibal he took me in like family..and I consider him a friend, but; The fallback of being a Celeb is that you sometimes get flamed and posts get spun and turned giving the wrong impression or something said that wasn't mean't. Sorry I don't hear from you anymore, I don't like that to happen to anyone..I am only here to make friends and Entertain..being famous is not the important thing..good friends are priceless. May all your Fantasys come alive. _____________________
