Neehai is definately a "terrorist" and must be imprisoned/interrogated/tortured at Guantanamo now for the good of us all! :D

Remember the big three boogie-men to keep us all in line...
  1. Terror
  2. Homosexuals
  3. Abortion

Uh, right... just like our pouring millions into the Taliban paid off... just like putting Hussein on the CIA payroll, helping him stage his coupe, and supplying him with chemical weapons to use against Iran paid off... just like giving Bin Laden CIA training paid off...

I wish I could rethink a few of the stupid things I did twenty years ago, sometimes...

That's not all. Many state representatives, governors, and even federal ministers are currently in court over receiving corporate financing to pass preferable legislation in favour of corporations.

Most countries' politicians are guilty of this... just that the US is notorious for it.

No offense, but the NEA isn't taking that much money. Nor is welfare. Honestly, pick up a copy of the budget.

It's easy to bitch about Welfare and Welfare Queens, but a lot of people don't have a family to take them in if they get downsized out of a job, just so the shareholders can get an extra thousandth of a cent. I wonder how they'd like to see beggars on every street corner, the way it used to be?

Perhaps he meant corporate welfare.

I'm not bitching about welfare. While I do think it is a system with many flaws, the amount of real dollars it costs is worth it for the services provided.

That said, there are major problems with the welfare system that need to continually be addressed. These problems affect both the government as a provider and the recipient.

I used to work in a convenience store when I was going to school. This was back in the old days when food stamps were actually paper money. The only thing was that you couldn't give coin food stamps as change. A common scam in my store was to send in children with a $1 food stamp eac to buy a 5 cent piece of candy. Naturally, you would need to give back $.95 in change. The "parent" would then come in with close to $3 in change to purchase beer or cigarettes. This sort of thing happened from time to time, but there are always people trying to work the system.

I wil never forget one woman who came in though. She had three children and her husband left her. Child support isn't always a reality. She went on food stamps and would come into the store to buy milk, bread and other necessities. The one thing that stood out with this woman. If her total was $4.05 she would actually pull a nickel out of her purse to even the sale instead of getting the $.95 cash money back.

Because food stamp sales needed to be keyed into the register differently, she had to tell me each time that she would be paying with food stamps. She came in for about 6 months. She was always embarassed and always tired. She was working more than one job. After about six months she came in to make her purchase and smiled and explained that she would be paying cash. She paid in cash for the rest of my time working there.

Some people do abuse the systems, but for so many people it is there to save their life as they go through a rough time. Welfare isn't that expensive from a tax standpoint.
