I created this little group in my first SL days with Makayo Stygian, we had fun trips and built a space ship that got reviewed in Hamlet's New world notes. Since then .... Makayo had some RL issues and i found some other stuffs to do and play with but the space pirates idea stayed in a corner of my head (its why the group still exist) what i would like to know is the opinion of other SL players and the old space pirates members about the future of this group now that most of the space pirates are much older , some have become exellent scripters, maybe its time to create something i was thinking about creating a sort of "roleplay game" like we had time ago with the "Air pirates" and the "pirates hunters" (i think it was the name) even if not many things happened, i remember the thrill we had with it. Maybe building a space pirates versus space police game? Well i am not sure about what we can do or cannot, agressive behavior is quickly stated as griefing here. A combat system maybe? since the sl one is quite borked (we fought hard to get back our spaceship control in raush because of some homing missiles, but was akind of thrill too when i look back, thanks to the syndicate group) and a combat system would allow space pirates and theyr oppodent to fight eachother at anytime and anywhere , that could be pretty fun. What i would like basically since i get more and more request of SL players willing to join the group (and i bet some ppl i sayd a big NO are at the origin of the space pirates clones ) recreate this fun, creating a kind of role, sheduling events and things like this. So i request the advice of all the actual space pirates members and anybody that would like to throw his 2 cents in it Also if some remember of the fun we had if you want to share some memories you are welcome

Define the project, get some friends and then start work. Once you have something to show you'll get a lot of interest. And don't forget to add your game to the wiki!

well as i said its not explicitely defined, back in the old days when space pirates , air pirates and pirates hunters formed there was nothing just a kind of role playing stuff, aliances, and so (see http://secondlife.blogs.com/nwn/2004/06/the_dreadnought.html) its why i cannot define it very precisely, i dont see this as a "hey lets play tringo" but more, in the "hey come over space pirates are attacking" it would be fun for the members, but it could be for external peoples too, adding a kind of "stuffs happening inworld". Like a story played by a group of peoples. Back in the old time when we had this altercation with the Syndicate in Raush (i remind myself this all the time dammn) it was really terrible, hard to explain but with all the things thats flowed in our heads we could have written a book chapter after it ^_^ . Of course i dont want to restrict the membership to only a small part of SL players but at the opposite i dont want the pirates versus space police stuff to become the latest tringo game. In the same idea i never saw players creating something like a bank and having gangsters versus police firefight I am sure there is room in Second life for these kind of stuffs Well i am going off topic So to answer you yes of course we will add ourself to the wikki ^_^

You're gonna hear about space pirates soon enough... when we dock a giant space ship to a telehub near you !

I had been interested in a space-esque project for a little while now, and would love to help. In particular, I thought it would be interesting to have a system in which you have ship versus ship combat, a small economy, some non-combat missions, modifyable ships with modular weapons, etc. Then I realized that this would just be a wholesale bastardization of EVE Online. Then I also realized that my scripting talent is pitiable, and it got added to the ever-growing heap of ideas that I have to discard as impractical.
Nonetheless, I would love to help get something like this off the ground.

You'd be a shoe-in for the project if you didn't already have work invested in Darklife. And Kyrah, given I'd heard the idea from the grapevine, I'd say it's a good one. However - it all kinda hinges either on acquiring a very large plot of land to start a "game" or defining all of the code in the actual spacecraft. I think it could potentially be fun, and by virtue of being around about the time Makaio (it's an "i," by the way) started the group, I could potentially chip in, barring schedule (still have two people in-world that I need to get back to as it is - reality hurts at times). Green also had a project you might be interested in along these lines, but I'll let him explain it since I hate giving out potentially sensitive details. With the right amount of coerc... err, persuasion, I'm sure he might consider helping out.

From: Jeffrey Gomez However - it all kinda hinges either on acquiring a very large plot of land to start a "game" or defining all of the code in the actual spacecraft. Here is the game idea I've been toying with. I'm not sure if Kyrah's vision coincides with my own, so consider this an unrelated description of my own ideas for a space-based multiplayer game in SL. Space is nothing more than a vast void, with infrequent oases of civilization. Why should we confine all of the gameplay to one large area, when a dozen smaller ones would work far better? Say we have an outpost in Grant and a starbase in Mocha, each occupying something like 4096. Players would then have to traverse a real distance from point a to point b, with the risk of interception, conflict, and destruction along the way. Rather than confining the gameplay to one area, we bring the game to the grid. By placing the code in the ships themselves, we can limit concerns over non-participants being inconvencied by the game. Ideally, I'd like to implement a modular weapon/ship system in which players purchase a basic ship chassis and then fit it with armor, weapons, engines, etc. which effect the performance of the ship.

well i wasnt too focused rerally about ship combat, but more like packing a full system in the player's equipment, allowing "virtually" any place to become a warzone
--edit--
forgot to read end of your post ^_^ problem is mostly our dreaded physical prim limit :/
but yes it might be cool some kind of upgrades
what we need to deal is about the residents, if some ships are non physical some may not like massive dreadnought stationing in "theyr" sky

I would very much enjoy being an innocent bystander as a battle suddenly erupted overhead.
I suspect there are more than a few residents who wouldn't mind having something unusual happen in their skies. People are too quick to label any disruption as griefing, and I for one regret that this has stifled some kinds of creativity in SL.

I'd be truly honored to have the Arcadia parked in my skies at Arena. (Or the Queen Esmeralda, for that matter.) I can also be counted on to hide desperate space pirates on the run from foul, treacherous corrupt galactic police or other villains! Gamalons in exile welcome, no questions asked. neko (Gotta go rebuild my cave... or would an abandoned, run-down high-tech installation be better? Converted into a bar? Hm, how to attract desperate space pirates... dammit, I need sand! And probably a blues musician....)

Not sure what I can contribute, I'm noob but also an architect, studying building & scripting in SL. I have previously made several Star Wars Dark Forces add on games.

From: Jeffrey Gomez Second Life becomes more and more like EVE every day. As mentioned earlier in this thread, EVE is a large part of my inspiration. There are particular features of EVE which I thing would lend themselves well to reproduction in SL. We've got games like Dark Life, now it's time for a game where the emphasis is on gorgeous ship-based combat! Besides, if we get an EVE alternative started here, then I can stop wasting money on an EVE subscription which gets used less than 5 days a month.
