Oh boy, "Yank" isn't an insult. Some folks just look for reasons to be offended.

I don't think "Yank" is an insult. Depends on what kind of tone it's delivered in, I suppose.
I would imagine that if I had a problem with Americans then SL wouldn't be a place I'd be desperate to get back into, as I am. ![]() _____________________

The service IS online, I'm online right now with a few hundred others I see scattered on the map. It's the LOGINS that are hosed right now. Just because you can't login doesn't mean the entire service is offline.
I was able to login this morning with two different avatars. But right now I can't login my 2nd avatar at all. Same story as last night. MY main avatar remains online since I've kept it on all morning. _____________________

HUGSaLOT (bloody awful name, by the way!), there's a difference between "grid is up but no logins" and "Second Life is open". It's like saying a shop is selling things but the door is locked - it's not open.

That is the stupidest thing you have ever said on the forums, Sensual. Yank is NOT an insult. It's just like us saying 'the Brits'. Plain and simple. _____________________

I am often confused what the proper thing to call people is.
I have undersood that a black person is referd to as afro-american. Living in Europe I just would find it strange to call a person with dark skin living in for example Hungary , afro-american. If afro-american is the proper term for people with roots in Africa now living on the american continent. Is the proper for term for people with roots in Europe euro-american; someone from Asia, asia-american etc. Furthemore, would this be mostly for people living in Nort America? Or is a black person in Argentina also an afro-american? I wonder this since it seems that people from southern part of America is not usually refered to as americans but latinos. Is the ending "-american" only used to refer to people living in Nort America or even just USA? My brothers wife is from USA, now located in Europe though. Should I refer to her as american-european to be politically correct? Or should I just keep on refering to her as frigging feminist as up to now. _____________________

I believe that is African-American, not Afro, which is a hair style. Personally, I think American is the only word needed here.

From my alternate reality, a term that exists is "Afrerican". But the geography is different.
![]() I like... "human" ![]() ^ this is in NO way meant to slight my furry or friends of other species. I'm part-cat, part-robot myself! _____________________

Lecter (as opposed to Lecktor),
<<I am often confused what the proper thing to call people is. I have undersood that a black person is referd to as afro-american. Should I refer to her as american-european to be politically correct? Or should I just keep on refering to her as frigging feminist as up to now.>> Welcome to the nightmare jungle of political correctness. The way I call someone depends entirely on the context. If, for example, I am talking about someone who lives in America and has dark skin, if I wish to speak of them in the context of their colour, I will call them a black person or a black American. If it is their racial origin that is the subject of what I am saying, then I will call them an African-American. If I am talking about them in the context of their nationality, I will call them an American. If I am talking about them as a human being I will call them a person. Likewise, a black Hungarian would normally be a Hungarian, unless I wanted to emphasise their racial origin, in which case they would be a black Hungarian. Our language is actually quite simple - it's only extreme politics that tries to mangle it. _____________________

The way I see it:
I am black. African-American is a stupid little term that reinforces the belief that Africa is a monolithic country and culture of jungle dwellers, not a continent made up of many separate countries, cultures and various races. I don't mind being called a Yank. Just don't call me a jerk. ![]() _____________________
