Anybody having troubles logging in?

You are not in a que. You are in a queue.

Having a queue sucks for people who are just trying to login to see whats going on.

I've sat in the queue for at least 8 times over the last 45 mins. Did not quit the login in frustration. Just went about doing some things around the house. Once I sat and watched that bar pulsate for 10 mins. And each time I'm kicked back to the login screen. Something is definitely amiss. And to the person complaining about clogging the forum, go do something constructive and put on a happy face!

Haven't been able to log in today either. Been playing Anarchy Online and thinking about quitting SL Too much money to have land and be in SL!

An hour to log in, Ten minutes till the sim crashed

During that ten minutes till sim crash the script I was working on would not execute.

gee. it's be nice if it said "waiting in queue" rather than "preparing inventory."

Que, I don't think so. If I just leave it, it just goes back to the log in screen after a while.

Same here. Stuck in preparing inventory. If I let it sit, it goes back to login screen; if I exit and restart it, it says the game previously crashed. This has been my situation for 2 days. Once every now and then something catches and I actually break through.

After every session I delete the cache files. And the longest it's taken me to log in with 1.5.12 is about three minutes.

Still.........that's not as much fun as coming here to bitch.

Splendid. A constructive suggestion, for a change. Where are these cache files, please, that I may delete them and, as you suggest, "Carry on"? (And I'm on a Mac, so they may be different than where they are on BlackAdder's machine....) Yes, I know you meant "carry on" bitching, but I'd rather delete the cache files and get on with my second life.

It would be nice to have something to do while waiting to login. Build stuff offline, IM people, etc. Somehow I don't think this login queue thing is going away, so perhaps it's time to think of things that could be done while we're waiting.

I have tried repeatedly to log in tonight, and the failure of the system to successfully login is not as annoying as those who are responding to complaints by saying the system is not broken, it is just slow, you are in a queue, etc.

When you wait wait and wait and it doesn't give any error message but just returns to the login screen, that is broken. You aren't in a queue at that point.

When you wait and wait and wait and it finally craps out with the "despite our best efforts..." message, that is broken. You aren't in a queue at that point either.

At both of those points the login process has expired, the login procedure is dead, the login attempt has passed away and gone to meet its maker. The attempt to login is not just stunned, it isn't taking a nap, and it's not pining for the fjords.

Patience while waiting isn't going to magically make it work at that point because the login process has totally and utterly failed.

Twice I've let it sit for over 30minutes, but didn't get past fetching inventory. Has anyone made it in after such a long wait?

well, if i let it sit for about 8 mins, i will get in. But after about 2 or 3 mins, the program freezes! and i have to rebot, and wait another 8 mins, only to freeze up again. Arg!

Yup, John Cleese is really Philip Linden and Eric Idle is the grid monkey that causing all of the crashes.

Ugh, that is what was happening to me, tonite.

I was wondering if people were idiots and quiting, but it does happen Talen. I've been leaving it on without touching my screen. Tried to get in several times already.

1. PREPARING INVENTORY (Varies from 2 - 5 mins)
2. FETCHING INVENTORY (less than a min)
3. CONTACTING USER SERVER (min or two)
4. Back to Login Screen

It is broken

Same here... I get stuck at "Preparing Inventory" and after that the game is just "Not Responding". I have waited for a long time but it doesn't get past that screen and then after I end the program the crash logger shows up.

Thats SL for you.. LL must have just finished burning some more of that $8/million on the office party and everybody is too drunk to notice the game is down. lol

I'm finally in. All it took is removing SL and reinstalling it.

Some folks try and try and clear their cache and get in and attribute success to clearing the cache.

I got in by continuing to try. I attribute succes to "I got lucky that time".

Their is no reason to think that the thing you did just prior to a successful login after hours of failure is the thing that made it work.

If the system was working correctly the cache wouldn't hold bad data and would thus not need to be emptied.

If the system was working correctly it wouldn''t screw up some setting requiring it to be reinstalled.

If the system was working correctly it wouldn't fail with varied messages or no message and then work in the third hour of trying.

The bird is still dead in my view.

You seem to be right I spoke too soon. While I did get in earlier I wound up alone in the ocean when I went to tp. While trying to get back on I got the same problem. Although as I understand it thats still part of the queue problem. Supposedly when a lot of people are trying to get in it may kick you back to login thats why they told us not to just quit out because that would add to the login bork.

Anyway I never did get back in I ended up getting booted back to login every time.
