In another thread, blaze's pointing out of my comments (which were a pun - a sexual innuendo, NOT a personal attack) as somehow a personal attack actually got Jeska Linden to slice and dice the thread apart so it's unreadable. (No offense, Jeska)

I'd like to see blaze held accountable for his slew of personal attacks.

Let's keep the innuendo to the mature sims.

Anwyays. Can someone please lock these threads? This is getting tiresome.

Everyone was sick of these threads probably around post #5. Why are we dragging this out?

Because apparently people keep replying to one another's comments?

Innuendo is completely PG. Innuendo is implied sexual content, not actually putting in R-rated content.

Think Groucho Marx. I don't recall swarmed of people declaring his comedy to be innapropriate, through times of tight restrictions of television broadcast, and Marx was a master of innuendo.

Well I'm with 99% of the posters in this thread. Personally I think land baroning is totally against the spirit of this game. I am still learning to build and you seem not to have learned what some of these people have achieved and how they have contributed to SL. I bought 512sqm through Land for the Landless and I still own it. I love it and wouldn't sell it for anything but I guess you can't understand that.

You think the responses to your post are tiresome? Well, I think buying cheap land, plonking a cheap or free house on it and reselling it for a higher sum is pretty tiresome. I also see from another post that you have been buying someone else's houses for little or no cost and selling those houses for L$100.

If you make money on SL then so be it - but you sure as hell won't make many friends. I have some really good friends in SL and they are worth more to me than all the money you will ever make.

Here's a suggestion on how to be a true land developer, be profitable, and earn the trust of the community:

* Practice terraforming and landscaping techniques on a test parcel of your own, and when you're good enough, go to the next point...

* Advertise your services as a land developer in the forum classifieds, in-world ads, and other places.

* Charge a negotiated fee for landscaping. If you have to, subcontract an architect to complete your client's plan.

If you're a skilled landscaper, this will lead to GUARANTEED PROFIT.

The best part about this profit-making plan is that you don't force anyone to accept your terraforming by buying/selling the land itself, and so no one can accuse you of skimming, gouging, or any unethical behaviour. In fact, if you're good, your reputation will grow, and you'll be hired more often.

I'm waiting for blaze to figure out that for 1/2 hour as a dancer/cybersex escort that he can make double his profits on landbaroning without the sweat equity (so to speak). :)

I'll take this as you not having an answer for any of my points, and your request for a serious discussion as sidestepping any issues brought up.

Do I even need to point out that, ironically, blaze's sarcasm is still avoiding the issue.

Bottom line, blaze, don't talk crap and then not be able to answer for what you've said.

I basically do land developement, but I do it on other peoples land for a fee and I might add I do make a profit and at the same time improve their land.

I go along with Chip, people want land to build on, not move iinto a prefab house. Otherwise they would simply live in the apartments dotting the land. I also believe the amount of apartments now in SL are because of the way land prices were. Hardly anyone could afford the land at the rediculous prices being charged.

I find most people buy land to build on themselves. ant land I have bought if it had a build on it the first thing I did was remove it.

All I can see by plopping down a prefab house and a few plants and trees is just a gentler way of putting up a spinning For Sale sign.

No, this is not a troll or a snipe (whatever the hell a snipe is anyways) This is simply my view of the discussion going on here.

The difference being in my mind is... I do add to land value of others, I also do it for the joy of doing a good build. Of course I charge but I charge for my build, not for my pocketbook. Im not doing it to increase the size of my pocketbook.

Your idea with the trolleys is a good one, I cant understand why you dont simply improve on those and make a profit selling them. Basically they are being used for your own advertising to sell land.

SL is about content and creativity, its not about money and living off the backs of others who wish to use their creativity. Craetivity is content, Land Speculators add none.

When I came to SL, my original goal was simply to have fun, I still stand by this goal, however, the lack of food money on the other side sort of forced me into doing scripting for money, people like coders who can do wonderous things, that's something I do, at a respectable price, my stuff's priced cheap considering the powerful stuff I can and at times do create.
I'm still here for fun and am damn lazy with doing anything work related, especially on days where the asset server's being fussy.
