Since stipends are dropping dramatically in 1.2 will referral bonuses drop as well? What about payment for events?
If gift accounts are available before Christmas I'll probably get a couple for friends.

Agreed. My referral bonus comment was more a kink than request. Just trying to help cover all the bases. It would be too easy to just buy L$ while you sign up your friends.
I think its a very cool idea to give the gift of SL. It will be up to the receiver to decide if they want land or not.

Question on this: Can you buy a gift certificate that can be applied against existing accounts? Like paying for a month's access for someone - $9.95 (assuming they are on the base plan).

The referral bonus is dropping to L$2000.
Right now gift certificates can only be applied to new accounts. At some point we'll change this but not until all the kinks get ironed out of 1.2.
